I was thinking of paying to go in a directory big one like yahoo. Trying to build traffic as of today my site is a little over three months old and my traffic is small. I have no back links yet to bussy building the site. I was reading some post on this site that a lot of people right articles about there site then post them and put a link going to there site on the subject.
when is it time to advertise, I was waiting to get some traffic before I advertise, is this the right way to go

You would be better off to hire a copywriter and get some good content.

Content + link building + time= Success It is also important what your web site is all about. Do people actually search for the content you offer? To help you to write your own back links, this article might be useful:

That is the idea, roughly, try also to put the keywords you are targeting in your link text, that is called, anchored keywords (Google Search result). SY

It makes a great backlink and the Search Engines know they are reviewed by "humans", so it makes it stronger.
Another good one is business.com. It's worth the 300 bucks a pop if you make money.
