there are very few threads about bitty browser on dp. if you're not familiar with bitty browser www.bitty.com it uses frames to embed any webpage within a mini browser you can put on your web page. visitors can then search and use the entire web without leaving your site. my question is, doesn't this bring up copyright issues if web masters, in effect, can "duplicate" any website at their own site domain?
It would really depend on how it is used. I am sure there are ways to use it both legally and ways that would infringe. p.s. Your link to bitty is messed up with some extra code.
I do know that some websites include a clause in their terms of use stating that you may not have the page displayed within frames. I don't know if there's any case law regarding copyright issues and frames, but the tos issues alone would make me hesitant - not smart to piss off bigger sites in the niche that you may want to work with later on.
There have been court cases where framing has been found to be copyright infringement. The Washington Post, CNN and other news sites have also sued for having their content displayed in a frame. It certainly opens the door for a lawsuit, and there is case law to support being found guilty of infringement.
