I do not think yahoo is going to merge with Microsoft. It is good for both yahoo and the rest of the world except Microsoft :)

dead horse :) j/k..still a very interesting topic. Considering 99% of my SE traffic comes from Google I would think a partnership with Yahoo and Microsoft for search would be a good thing for the market, but not sure if even that would put a dent in the SE numbers. It's hard to reinvent the SE wheel and search has become synonymous with "googling".

No they will not. Microsoft had plans and they offered to buy yahoo but they could not come to an agreement on the price of each share. Microsoft even threatened to take the issue to the share holders. Still yahoo stood its stand. later yahoo took the move to sell itself to Microsoft and again they couldn't come to a price agreement. the latest development according to Microsoft CEO Steve is that they do not intend to take over yahoo anymore.

Microsoft and Yahoo both have their downfalls, although I used to really love Yahoo a few years back. Only recently have I become a Google fanatic. Anyhow, I think a merger MIGHT do them some good, if of course they can stop trying to overdo things. Google does a lot, true enough, but they've got the rest of their stuff together....i.e., search engine FIRST, and everything else afterward.

if that would happen, that would be a very big issue.
Why are they merging are they doing it to beat Google?
If they would do that they it only means that they need each other to beat 1 Search Engine.
    2:1 ratio is not fair.
Bing should stand on its own..
    What do you think guys?
Bing now has the PR of 9 that's good...

I think they will merge together someday, especial for search engine section. There is a few way to fight search engine war with Google. If not merging everyone except google will die. The hope is only cooperating.

If they'll be merging soon I don't think if
what would be people's idea about that?
Microsoft is almost buying all the competitors so maybe soon
they would buy Google which is impossible. (i know Google wont sold their credibility)

If a merger occurs in the near future it appears most likely that MS will be taking over YAHOO. In order to get YAHOO shareholders to sell their shares, MS would have to pay more than the current market price per share.

That would normally drive the price of YAHOO stock up until the merger actually took place, at which time YAHOO stock would no longer exist. The impact on the price of MS stock is less certain. Quite often the "market" does not like the fact that an acquiring company is paying more than the market price to buy shares, and the stock of the acquiring company goes down. However, in some cases the two merged companies are seen as fitting together so well that the price of the acquiring company actually goes up.

My guess is that the price of MS would go down, at least temporarily, but that is only a guess.

    I would agree completely!

Microsoft was interested in Yahoo only for its search engine and the recent launching of Bing by them is testimony to the fact that MS has now distanced itself from Yahoo considerably. In fact it would not be wrong to say that MS is no longer interested in Yahoo!

It would be better if these two will merge, Google will get a tough competition then. What we will get is good and accurate results, new features and more things.
