The only possibility I see for a clash between US and China is Taiwan..

Yeah that'd be a lot more likely too. It'd take a helluva lot for 2 nuclear powers to go against either; and that'd probably do it.

And most likely it would be a long cold war, nothing else.
both country know that going on an open war would hurt both a lot.

And besides who wants to miss movies of Jakie Chan and Jet Lee.. ;)

honestly i think america would win.. otherwise china would have attacked taiwan already.

Then again this country is very ready for war. For instance anybody who goes to university here will take weeks of military training.

America wouldnt want to go to war with china because of 2 things, economy, and it cant be sure it would win easily. How long has it been since america engaged in a real war against a threat that outweighed them in anyway (IE technology, economy, or man power). China has the man power, and it has land based technology like tanks, and artillery.. it could repel an invasion.

So china would have a near impossible time getting to the states to attack, and america would have a very hard time doing shit to china.

But it cant be a long cold war because america, and many countries depend on chinese exports, a billion people in factories is nothing to laugh at!

Anyhow i'll go back to my first statement, that america would win. I think if you take the question at face value the usa would win. I think however that by the time china takes over taiwan the US will be able to see another potent reason not to attack, most likely more advanced tech that they have been keeping under wraps.

It all depends on how the war is fought. If US has to fight a war, keeping in mind civilian safety - like in Iraq , it has a difficult job.

However it will be a different story, if US decides to ignore civilian safety.

If someone has been Nat Geo regulary, he surely understands the might of US military technology.

Here are just some of the examples of US technology that I have seen on Nat Geo -

US has satelites powerful enough to read number plates of cars on land.
US has few thousand times more powerful nuclear arsenal than what it used in Hiroshima
US has missile guiding technology that can hit targets thousands of miles away within an accuracy of few sq metres.
US has self guiding, unmanned submarines ,capable of launching dozens of nuclear missile in rapid succession; all by themselves; without the need of any external aid.

If US were to fight a war with rest of the world, I would bet my money on US winning. :D

Well what a horrible thread to read! War sucks what ever the country and if as much effort is taken to keep the peace as fighting and building bombs, the word 'war' would only be a word in our history books.

It takes a few bad apples to start a war and millions to end it! There is no winners in any war.

but you have to remember vietnam and the bamboo traps. i wouldn't mess with asians, they look quite peaceful, but when the war comes, their spirit of fighting, even against all odds, it's unblieveable. As someone said before, China is a sleeping giant, it's better to not awake it...

    Hey,

I was watching Zone reality today, and chinese people are acquiring US military devices such as jets etc. They then find out ways to beat the stuff etc.

    Regards,
    Sohan.

The fate of any war is decided by the role of Air force of the countries these days.
Chinese airforce is heavily out numbered by USAF fighters.
It will take decades for China to become equivalent to today's US technology.

They are only good on making cheap and 2nd class stuffs.

you cannot win a war with air power alone though. you need to be able to take it to the ground and win too; thats where the trouble comes in.

But you can use Air Power to destroy ground resistance easily.

to a certain extent. You can control the ground forces (big units, tanks etc). but you cannot kill sufficient infantry. a commanding superiority of the air with a weak ground game usually leads to guerilla warfare, which is a war of attrition - the worst type of warfare (for the aggressor).

I am sure if it come to a war between US and China, Us wouldnt be alone and China is not strong enough to survive the war against NATO.

They have man power but technology wise far behind US+Ally, but ohh well India too have Man Power.

Plus China;s economy heavily depends on the exports to US and India like countries and if US manages to ban the imports from China, it would destroy the chinese economy.

I don't disagree. I think that much of China's economic base is on the coast, so its easily accessible to a naval onslaught. I don't think it'll ever come to it, though. It makes no sense for china to go to war with us (as the US provides so much economic benefit to china). they may not like us, politically. But they have to love us economically. Economics always wins in the end.

China's on the slow road, like the Soviet Union was. Eventually communism will fade away there, and democracy will take over.

true, but it will take the current generation of gov, and at least the next dieing to get there i think. The amount of brain washing that goes on in schools is signifiigant. For example, if you anybody in china about taiwan or any political issue they will tell u an identical answer. But the current generation of uni students arent too bad.. i mean i have chinese friends here that like family guy.

Anyhow it will take the current gov dieing, and the next gov of their picked people dieing before theres a great chance. Unless some kind of a rebellion comes up sooner.

    Hopefully that's a tiny possibility.

It's not our responsibliity to protect and look after everyone else. Taiwan isnt worth a nuclear war.
