I currently have two sites with free hosting. Now i've been thinking about getting set up with a domain, but I'm curious to see how other's have done with free web hosts.

I had some great success in the early days of blogspot, but they were hacked and I lost everything. I'll never use freehosting again ;)

I've made quite a bit of money with landing pages that used free sites. They were money savers back in the days when hosting cost an arm and a leg.

It depends what you mean by free hosting. Do you mean free hosting AND free domain like .blogspot.com/.wordpress.com.. or do you mean you have a domain but free hosting (like 000webhost.com).

Actually either way I would recommend paying for a domain name AND some decent hosting (Hostgator is my recommendation). Having your own hosting allows you to control a lot more about what files are in your section of the web server, how you install scripts, which directories are protected/hidden and which files are hidden, AND you can provide more FTP accounts to log into your server.

As for your own domain name, that's just obvious that it's a good choice. How many Blogspot domains do you see making 5k a month?

You can have a good quality blog on blogspot and wordpress.com. But those are huge sites that have other sources of revenue besides running ads on your site.

But to answer your question, besides blogspot and wordpress.com - no, I have not heard of people getting lots of traffic or making money from free sites.

Free sites are still good for landing pages/redirects in my opinion. Even more so if you so any grey or blackhat methods. It's true you have a bit less control, but most do cpanel and whatnot these days.

I wouldn't trust my main sites on them though, they could dry up and blow away at anytime, get hacked, or just become slow as a glue milkshake as well....

If you're planning to build up a big website / company website.
I would suggest you go for Paid Hosting, unless you dont have the cash to pay for the fees.

With a sig line like that I bet it does!!

If you want credibility, then you need a legit domain and paid hosting. Better yet, have your own IP address. Hosting is cheap these days.

#1or2 "make money online" was blogspot.com when i looked last time.

but dont recommend other normal free hosting. most of them will shut theri free service down in 1 year they are just trying to do advertisement etc.. others will redirect your site their clone sites sometimes. little amoun of them wil spread trojans. for other things i see free good things but in this issue not except blogspot.
    you should pay 3-4bucks monthly.

Free hosting is fine to start out and get your feet wet. Once you have the money get a domain and paid hosting for the long run.

I use officelive hosting (officelive.microsoft.com). They offer free hosting, domain name (a real one, like www.example.com), and a great WYSIWYG site designer. The domain is free for the first year and $15 a year after that, but if your site isn't working out or you're not making as much money as you want, you can just cancel it.

It's a great way to see if a domain is actually going to work before you ever have to pay for it.

The best part is you can register multiple domains under 1 debit card. :D

Free Hosting does not suck. We all have to start somewhere. Free Hosting has its place.

Free Hosting is great for small personal sites or as learning environments but i would suggest moving to paid for credibility if you plan on making any money from your site.

    Best Regards, George

I am so successful with free hosting website like blogspot and was able to earn over $300 a month which is not that bad. I even surpassed my school teacher's income. :)

Anyway, its enough for me to support myself independently. Good luck to you all.

its google's property of course it should work and lots of users already can testify that.
free hosting may work well if you just work by promoting it well.
