    Hello,

I started the 1st site from my signature 2 years ago. I knew from the beginning it is a very crowded niche and I have to work a lot to have good SERPS.
Unfortunately, in the past few months, the number of indexed in Google started to drop, along with my visitors coming from Google :(

What would you recommend to stop this? It is very hard to get fresh new links.

Best way to improve your index pages is to add new content and keep link back to your old pages ( Like related information ).

Regularly updating your site will help. If the site is not updated for long time, indexed pages in google will drop

I guess you might be targeting very competitive keywords, try out to focus on keywords & phrases which are less competitive but still effective.

The site is a free software download archive, so many of the product description pages come from the publisher and gets updated when a new version is out. There are many other sites having these products ... so my question is why my pages are getting out of google index and other don't? Because of the PR?

I don't know how many pages we are talking about but throwing 1 or 2 social bookmarking links at each page about once a month seems to keep things in the index once they are already there. I've read in several places that google likes to see at least 1 new link every couple of months or it drops pages with low PR. Hope that helps.

Serps often update, so you're not the only one with this problem.
Best thing would be updating your site content regularly and getting more backlinks.

BTW, if I try command site:www[dot]softarea51[dot]com I see 49000 indexed pages, but in webmastertools I see 114000 indexed urls. Why is this difference?
Another strange things is that old webmastertools interface shows less links than the new one.

Keep building backlinks and add new pages of content daily. That way searches engines can see that you are stil a living breathing site,

Are the links on forums and blogs count for SERPS and PR?

These two figures are often different - Google updates both figures independently as far as I can tell. Shouldn't be anything to worry about.

I run similar sites to yours. In the past couple of years, traffic is harder to come by, maybe because there is more competition. Your site looks in good shape as far as I can see with a quick look.

I can see some things you could try tweaking to see if you can make an improvement. You could use the PAD data a bit differently to improve some of the info you display. I'm guessing but I don't think you're getting a lot of image search traffic either so there's things you might improve there too. Also your internal linking could be improved. You might also build some more backlinks.

PM me if you'd like any more info. Nice site!

Same problem here with me, I had 240,000 pages indexed I am now donw to 84,000 in just 10 days.

My site is updated every second of the day with lots of new content, and backlinks are naturally added daily.

So its just another Google mystery / algo update

Yes, new content can help you out. Try to focus first on less-competitor keywords before you target your major keywords.
