Hi everybody, Is it good idea to post links to all of my website's pages on my profile page in social bookmarks sites? I mean, in addition to saving bookmarks. For example, on propeller.com I now have a "member profile" page with all my pages listed, AND "member submissions" page, again - with all my pages submitted as stories. Is there any guidelines how to submit your pages to social bookmarking sites to build links effectively? If you have a good tip how to submit stories to help the website and not hurt it, would you share please? Thanks in advance!
Why wouldn't it be? Not only will it be helpful for gaining backlinks from DoFollow sites, but if you add friends or get people to look at your profile they may also be interested in clicking on your links and gaining you more visits. If you include the name of your site in your profile name (for example, my site is www.jakerocheleau.com, so I would have my username be JakeRocheleau) then your profile will be ranked higher on Google for those keywords of your website. This works for mostly all social bookmarking and networking sites like Digg, Delicious, Sphinn, etc...
A backlink is a backlink as far as Google index the page. After linking to your money making sites, make sure to index your social bookmarking site profiles so that Google know about them
Hey, Could you give us some tips on how to get those profiles indexed faster? I recently filled a delicious account with some links but it's been a few days and Google hasn't crawled it yet. I thought delicious was often visited by Googlebot, like Digg, where it only took 8 minutes for my story page and profile page to be indexed by Google. Thanks!
its important to first know if the links option in the profile is a dofollow or nofollow. anyways, here's a few points to make your profile page valuable: 1) submit and vote for stories 2) make friends 3) comment on stories the more you become active on a social site, the more your profile page gets links from throughout the site. this is how some profile have high PR
Hey uttoransen, Thank you very much for those tips! I can't believe I haven't I didn't think about that myself. I guess it's because I just started getting my feet wet in the social bookmarking world. Regards
It's simple - just bookmark your profile pages as well Or find another way to point a few backlinks to your profile to get it indexed by Google.
If you are submitting a story to a bookmarking site and also have the same page as homepage, you are very likely to get banned unless you are using google.com or cnn.com as home page ;-)
Thank you guys for your valuable inputs! The most concern was whether or not it's Ok to do both: save link to your website as a bookmark AND publish it on your member profile page. If positive - then the second part of the question was - is it a good idea to do so for multiple pages within the same site and not only the homepage? If I took your answers correctly - both questions are positive. Correct?
jitendraag, do you believe so no matter how many links you have saved and what the content subject is?
It might even be a good idea to link back to your profile pages from your own site, like in an "About me" section or something.
It seems kind of circular. You have a list of links somewhere. Say, in a folder on mystuff.ask.com or in oyax. Then you create a link to the (folder or profile ) list of links. etc, etc. Does this really work ??? Since it might actually take 3, 4, or 5 jumps to get to your actual website that you're trying to promote.
Hi Ascendancy, That makes sense. A page might be created on the website (something like "I can also be found on...") with links to couple of member profile pages on social sites. Thanks for your great help!
Teatime, Why should it take 3, 4, or 5 jumps to get to my actual website? The list of links on, say mystuff.ask.com is public and accessible by SE. Minimum, you get a backlink, and if your content is good and you're lucky, you get quality traffic. Your member profile page is private and invisible (some social sites let you make it public, but the default is private). To make it "visible", it's suggested to get a link from a reputable page. You get two lists of links from one website.
