Working with Indians

I have worked with a few indian companies/individuals mainly through Elance and RAC. Overall the experience was good, they are sincere and hard workers. But what I found lagging was the communication, in terms of sending regular updates on the progress and over commitment. Many guys didn't deliver on time, they'll give ambitious dates and don't generally meet them.
What has been your experience of working with Indians here?

I think that true with the freelancers on RAC, Elance and GAF in general. It isn't really specific to India. I find though if you ask a lot more questions, clarify issues, etc through PM beforehand you will get not only a better product but a better turnaround time.

You can also agree on a bonus for an early completion (If you accept it - ie its correct) which seems to do wonders. ;)

I am myself in India and i am surrounded by a lot of Outsourcing companies here (a lot of my friends including myself are running our own companies).

From what i have seen, these guys take projects more than their capacity. They wont say no to anything even if they dont have the staff/man power to complete it within the time frame promised. That's where the problem is.

Same was the case with me, but i learned from my mistakes and appointed a project manager long ago, which helped me a lot in managing the work load.

You will experience the problems suggested by you in the companies who just kicked off and want to grow fast (they are always cheap ;)). But if you go with a company who has 5-6 years experience under their belt, you will feel the difference. :)

Well i'm a freelancer to and i "hired" some people from GAF and where indians they did the work (simple work but time consuming) very fast and cheap they are cheap and i can afourd as i am a freelancer to to spend very much on the projects i'm giving away ..

I will hire more (but i still don't have a very good opinion about many indians freelancers as they ruine the freelancer marcket with theyer low ridiculous low bids ...) i know there is poverty but in my country to is poverty but i don't take projects that turns me in a slave for few dollars it a issue of respecting yourself .

ahhhh..... c'mon man!!! I have been into this business for 8 years now. I have seen you guys on RAC and elance, the project for which i think $200 is low you guys bid $20 on it.

We have a lot of guys from Romania coming in India for jobs but i have never heard any Indian going to Romania for job.

Why should we compare with the countries?
Every place we have differant type of people, and they charge for their work based on their service, their costs, their experiance.
I will give you a simple example:
here in dp forums i give one service for which i charge 40$
My friend (Indian) charges 100$ for the very same service
and another indian is giving the same service for 10$
Now how do you compare these?
I charge based on my costs and experiance and many other factors, so you cannot directly blame any specific country.
Check the person you are going to deal with 10 times before making a deal, see his reputation (iTraders) at the place where you are going to work with him.
You are always allowed to give that person a negative feedback if he didnt do the job on time, and if this still continues stop working with them and hire a professional firm instead of going for freelancers.
    Good day.
    Amit
