Hello, im looking into possibly moving some of my sites soon from one web hosting provider to another, i will most likely try moving my wordpress blogs first. There's minor differences in versions of the usual stuff on each server, as follows: Current Host: Apache: 2.2.11 MySQL: 5.1.30 PHP: 5.2.4 phpMyAdmin: 2.11.9.5 The other host il move to (already host other blog and site there) Apache version: 2.2.11 (Unix) MySQL version: 4.1.22-standard-log PHP version: 5.2.9 phpMyAdmin - 2.11.9.5 As you can see there's only difference with MySQL and PHP between the two servers. Should i be ok with this?
PHP version difference should not be an issue but you may face problem with your database. If you go from Mysql 4.1 to Mysql 5 then there is no issue. But in your case your downgrading the MySQL version and it may create problem.
Thanks kailash, what i may have to do is just take another separate little hosting account somewhere and make sure im not going backwards on those PHP and MySQL versions.
I wouldn't move to a MySQL version: 4.1.22-standard-log host. MYSQL 5 is a strong improvement. Tell them to upgrade.
Exactly... Ask them to upgrade, It won't be a big job for them. Or search for another host. As yo said you already have a site hosted on it. So only option left for you to have them upgrade MySql. -Xak
It's weird to see the php versions and the mysql version flip flop like that. As I read it, 4.1 end of life'd about 2.5 years ago: mysql.com/about/legal/lifecycle/#calendar
Normally you wont face any big problems as the basic functions wont change at all only new functions would be added in the new versions so i would say not a big worry
Most likely il prob just grab an account at another little decent host with the new versions of MySQL and PHP. Think il go for another wee host. Thanks, i didn't realise there was that much time between them. Think to be safe il not risk going backwards on a version. Thanks to you all for the info, btw regarding another host il be looking for another UK shared hosting provider (UK located servers) if any of you have recommendations, do mention them, no worries if you dont use UK hosts, thanks again everyone.
