Do you believe in Fate?

Do you believe in Fate or Free Will?

Is free-will just a figment of our imagination? Is fate over-rated by religions?

As someone said,"If God knows everything He must know the future, and if He knows the future, He must know the future acts of His creatures. But then His creatures must act, as He knows they will act. How then can they be free?”

    What do you guys say?

UPDATE: 9 dead after Metro train derailment, collision

    Was that their fate?

When Palestinian children are killed by tons of bombs dropped by israeli F16s, is it their fate to die? Were they born just to be punished without any fault of theirs? Why would a loving God do such a thing?

I believe our "destinies" are determined by the actions of ourselves and those who's actions influence us. Like when thousands of people were killed by islamists flying planes into buildings, it was a result of them being in a place where the actions of murderous scumbags could influence them.

combination of both limited to each one, somtimes it's fate, sometimes it's free will.

    for example,
in 23/06/09 at 21:00 i have my free will to stay awake or go to sleep.

in 23/06/09 at 21:10 i have decided to stay awake

in 24/06/09 anyone can say that it was fate that made me awake in 23/06/09 because this our human mind must use logic all the time.

i don't believe in any god or fate.

good and bad are random in nature.

good happens to bad persons and bad happens to good persons.

    ============================

our actions can influence our future, but that doesn't mean our actions can control our future.

future is a combination of "our actions" + "randomness in the universe".

    ============================

concept of "randomness" explains things much better than concept of "fate"...

anything can happen to anyone at any time....

who knows.......tomorrow, the earth may get blown away because of a gamma-ray burst.

Fate seems to just be another excuse to avoid taking responsibility for one's actions. ;)

I rather like the idea of free will. Even when it comes back to bite me in the @$$.

50/50. When ask about fate or free will, i am always reminded of the movie, the sliding doors starring gwyneth paltrow. She plays the role of a young Englishwoman who was fired from her job. There are two scenarios in the film (therefore two 'what ifs'), if she made it the the train or if she hadn't. Very intriguing and made me contemplate on how simple events could change our lives forever. Hope you'll find time to watch the film, beautiful and well directed.

    Cheers.

We as human beings would like to think of fate - It is our security blanket, it allows us to blame something other than ourselves.

But there is, unfortunately, no such thing as fate, only free will. As much as people hate to admit it, we are all applicable for our own actions.

yup, we certainly are the captain of our own ships. But I believe that there are circumstances beyond our control that would definitely make some changes. and too bad to say, they change our plans sometimes!

    cheers

Prophet Mohammad prayer and peace be upon him and his family said: "Nothing cause the fate to go back but the Supplication".

The people who have problems are of 2 kinds:

    1. Those who have it due to their sins.
    2. Those who have it as a test.

Tests are the chances to be accepted in High, Respected companies.

Also, there is a Just Rule set by God, that is:
He cannot be questioned as to what He does, while they will be questioned. (23)

This morning, I saw the image of the Prophet Mohammad in a giant crap I left in the toilet. I almost fished it out, framed it, and converted to Islam. Is that fate?

I guess you need to open up your head, fish out your brains, dump it into the toilet and flush it. This is no forum for inciting hatred. A rest may be appropriate for you.

To my view, no "fate" and no "free will". Everything is random without any explanation. Everyday is a new game of chance.

And for the palestinian kids regular crap of yours, I'm sure that there are dozens if not hundreds of millions children in Asia, Africa, and even in the developed world which would be happy to have food as the average palestinian child have, supplied to them also by my government, not to mention the unmatched free medical treatment for various diseases that they get in times of war and peace, free of charge.

Just 3 days ago a palestinian woman who had birth complications which the pal doctors could not handle, they called Barzilai hospital in Ashkelon and she was admitted. She and her born daughter (number 6) are in good health.

p.s. 1 wisdomtools I like obamanation but this time he deserved it. Altough to my view telling jokes on the expense of the "prophet" is definately not "hatred", just very bad taste.
p.s. 2 gauaerkhaekrh, is there anything in the world which is not related with the palestinians?

We should create our own fate..shouldn't sit idly thinking that it happens according to our fate!

I agree with you Shashank. But a lot of times we cannot control the circumstances which mould our lives.

Every day is different, does fate have a role in that, I don't know. Reason or not things happen, that's life.
