How Wide Should a Page Be? or matters

Hi all how wide is wide enough or is to wide no good??/ is this okay here please review this width on tables and top images here you can also ask how I made all the indexes in the uri string for seo too.....

Your overall layout width is fine. If you go any further, you will be too wide for people with 1024x768 screen resolutions.

 

While many people have made the switch from the old school CRT monitors to LCD monitors, there are a lot of people that not only use the old school monitors but when they upgraded to LCD, still only got a 15" or 17" monitor with a 1024 width resolution.

I agree with Destinyx3 - your site width is fine. But if you truly wanted to expand it, you can go as far as 975 pixels width and still fit in a 1024 pixel width resolution. Any more than that and on those monitors, they will see a horizontal scroll bar - which is quite annoying.

 

thanks for the encouragement lol ... currently I have a 960 pixel header jpg file ... that makes it so my tbles all stay with in the frame .... DW allows me to edit and phtoshop creates the jpg slices....

is their any thing else you would advise as far as my title structure for seo and my design grabs the attention of Kauai golfers??/

 

In my opinion, 65-75% is the optimal.

 

I usually do 600px or 700px for page width. So I know it will fix in every browser.

 

it's perfectly fine. no problems with the current width of your page.

 

I tried that one but I find the seo cannot display well for traffic when it is in the title meaning the link structure for customers ... adsense works off of clicks ...

Whatever size you do, make sure it's easily divisible by a variety of ways.

This is why 960px is a solid standard to follow right now for 1024x768 displays.

Actually, on both Windows and Mac for Firefox/Safari/Both, anything over 968 for a 1024x768 display is beyond the "safe zone." While 975px could work, it's not recommended.

Again, if you're shooting for 1024x768, 960 is perfect (divisible by 2, 3, etc).

If you're designing for 800x600, you'd want to design at a max width of 744px to be in the safe zone for multiple browsers, OSes.

 

If you use % as the unit of the layout, it applies to any sceen. The width of the layout is no more than 100%.

 

I tried the percent before not so good at that .... so far so good my layout has caught the eyes and click troughs are even far more better..... I like to keep my viewrs at the top of the browser...

The major screen dimentions are 1024 * 768 and 800*600 .
I read some articles, the best page width should be 1002px (1024-22) and 778px (800-22) .
The finger 22px is a constant value due to the browsers property .
The value 22 is for IE, and for FF the value should be 21, and for sofari is 23 . Good luck .

 

Different sites have different needs for width. Whatever works best for your site, use that.

 

Not so wide that visitors using legacy screen computers (such as 800x800) have to scroll horizontally in order to read page content.
