.us is only available to US citizens so dot us domains are not so popular world-wide

It is a really "brandable" domain. Apart from that you should take into consideration that it has no SEO, no backlinks and probably almost no traffic. The Internet archives (http://web.archive.org/web/*/eat.us) is showing some weird results as if it was previously used by a porn site.

If you are planning to use it for branding purposes it has a great potential and I would pay no more than $500 for it, if you are looking to build another food/restaurants related website you'll be better thinking of another name and pay $8.

The .US factor is also important, a good percentage of your potential traffic might end up going to .com when they revisit/recommend the site and it will also limit you to only the US market.

You may focus on foods.

I'm surprised it didn't go for more than that - extremely brandable as either a domain hack or a LLL dictionary word.

 

Gosh, that one should've gone for +5K IMO. It's a nice, brandable & memorable domain. It's 3L and it tells something nice!
