Bing is Microsoft's former Live.com search engine with a new name that puts search results into categories. As far as search goes, it's the same lame thing with a few new pretty blinking lights.

As already explained, Bing is a new search engine launched by Microsoft and the excitement visible is nothing but its share of hype that is associated with any new launches...

Bing has leaped from nowhere to being my #6 traffic provider in the brief time it has been online.

Only time will tell if this was a one-time traffic surge as a result of Microsoft's advertising. I hope not.

I just tried bing today and I kind of like it and how it puts alternative searches on the page too.

    Bing is sexy baby! LOL

I believe Bing has an advantage with the name alone...
Remember how "Google it" became a very common term? How many other words have transformed from a noun to a verb in such a short time. I believe "Bing it" has even more potential to do the same as it rolls off the tongue very well...

And lets face it... it is not going to be webmasters that determine a search engines popularity... it is in fact the users because there are far more of them than us...

Bing has been blasting ads everywhere recently which says they are serious about converting "the common user"...

    Hang on to your hats...

Bing is a big deal since it is from the big and mighty Microsoft who has the resources to sustain it.

Well, I believe Bing definitely needs a better graphic redesign. It looks so old fashioned (like the websites made in 1996~1999).

Gray background with a random pic in the middle is a turn off. :p They should hire a better designer.

Just look at Vista's interface, it's glossy - same for Office 2007 programs as well.
IE 8's design is also glossy (the buttons etc), so I think they should make bing's design matching with other microsoft products to give a feel that they comes as a set. ;)

Bing is just a new fad, its the "hot topic" of the day. Give it a few months and it will be in the same place that live or msn is. I see nothing new or revolutionary about the whole bing search engine. Nor do I understand why its such a hot topic - except that its new.

I'm excited because I'm hoping it will be competition for google later on down the road. Google is great don't get me wrong, but they have a monopoly and so I think that to make things better for us that they should have a little competition. Google right now, has the sole power to make or break a websites popularity and for some people their website(s) is/are their source of income. That's just too much power for one company and that's why I am happy to see Bing.

But rankings are based on backlinks, essentially, so in what way are they breaking popularity? Are you aware of any sites that lost popularity because Google did something to them based on something other than backlinks/popularity?
