gosh, you all hate pagerank so much, hands up who would prefer a pagerank zero site over a pagerank 10. What? Nobody??? But it's rubbish! You keep saying so!!!
I could not careless really as long as my site is on the frontpage of Google for my keywords. However saying that, it is still an instant indication of how strong the competition can be if they have high PR and are on the frontpage. It is a factor to consider in the effort you make in link building against these sites.
It's weird that you see inbound links only and disregarding PR, PR is an indicator of how good quality the backlinks are. If the site has very few links but high pr, that means they're not link spammers. High PR backlinks+quantity is the best.
I'm raising my hand and waving it around. I could seriously care less about PR, if I get it, great, if I don't BFD, I'm not going to lose sleep at night because on the last update my PR fell one point. The sooner people stop focusing on PR, and start focusing on content that makes people want to visit their site, the better off they'll be. The only thing you get with a high PR site is annoying emails from people looking to get links from you. I don't want my inbox cluttered with this mindless search for page rank, I'd rather dedicate my time to running my business, rather than have to comb through my email to find something that's relevant to my work.
From what I understand, being linked to by a high PR site can increase your PR, but PR has little effect on your position in the SERPs now days so it does not really help much traffic wise.
PR is a game you play without understanding the Rules and T&C, you might hate, disagree or whatsoever but u still need to join the game cause is organize by google ..... The Google RULES. Google Psycho 101.
As a matter fact pagerank does not matter at all, I have a PR5 website and it appears on 2 place of one of its main keywords at google, beating a bunch of PR6 and PR7 websites of the same niche some times it appears on first place beating wikipedia that has a PR8 on that topic. It's just a matter of relevance, if your website has backlinks related to your topic, then you rank better, link quality it's not the same than pagerank. I 've seen a lot of webmaster chasing a high pagerank without the matter of relevance, they just put their link based on the pagerank of the website but no the relevance.
These threads are always the same. Those with PR say its important and those without PR say it is not important. There are exceptions, but most everyone weighs in with their opinion without ever bothering to get the authoritative and definitive answer directly from Google. I agree. As long as you focus on marketing your site and building backlinks you will see an increase a PR anyway. However, increasing your PR should not be your main goal. Your main goal should be to increase your position in the SERPS and the amount of targeted traffic your site is receiving.
Before I do 4 way link exchanges with webmasters, I look to see if the site/page I am getting a link from is ranked for anything. If it is, its a go deal. I do hate sites that people just build for the purpose of selling links - duplicate content and all the other usual rubbish!
