You know as a seoer,we should know the internal optimization and external optimization,so when i log in an website,i like to read the source code.
today i found a website has these code in the top of pages:
    link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml"
    link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml"

i just think it is helpful for a spider to crawl your pages,is it right?
Anyone can tell me the effect of this code?
    Thanks.

    Alternate
Designates substitute versions for the document in which the link occurs. When used together with the lang attribute, it implies a translated version of the document. When used together with the media attribute, it implies a version designed for a different medium (or media).

The links you have mentioned are nothing but links for feed data in rss and atom formats.

    cheers

Yes, this really won't affect your rankings. Concentrate on building links!

Even if it does give a change, it's factor is too small to affect your rankings.
Move along and keep building links. =)

Absolutely zero effect on rankings. The only thing, the ONLY thing in the <head> that affects rankings at Google is <title>... period... end of story.

<meta> keywords element is totally ignored by Google and most engines (some less sophisticated search engines still use it as a minor ranking factor).

<meta> description is ignored for ranking purposes by Google (some less sophisticated search engines may use it as a minor ranking factor) although it does effect click-thru-rates if Google shows it as the snippet in the SERPs.

The rest of the <head> generally consists of meta-data for the browser to help it render pages correctly and are not content mean for the user, and therefore has no effect on rankings.
