If I have a WP blog on a domain name that's being hosted, and the host all of a sudden drops. WIll I lose all the information, posts, etc that I put on my blog? Or does this not happen?
Drops, as in temporarily goes down? Or suspends your account? Neither of these will affect the database which means your posts and content should still be in tact. If you get suspended, or your account gets shut down, in most instances the hosting provider will provide you with backups of your data. However, if the server dies (some hardware failure) then it is possible that you might lose your content.
How could I go about doing this myself? Sorry, but no former experience in web anything to be honest lol.
Just go to "tools" on the left side of the admin panel and then click "export" to get an xml file of all your posts, comments and settings. Then, if anything ever goes wrong, or if you switch hosts, you simply install a wordpress default installation and click "import" to fill the blog in the new location with your xml file of your old posts.
