    phpbb obvously. 100% Free, regularly updated, more free themes available, easy to customize, secure, more checks of boths and forum poster software using addons, etc.

    SMF has always treated me really well. I prefer it. But there is more support and a better community for phpBB. My votes for SMF, but it's personal.
