I have the philosophy that I don't buy what I don't understand. Period. Every time I look to purchase some ads, people brag about their page rank. And for the life of me, I don't understand how some poorly designed websites with one or two lousy incoming link gets a page rank of 3. But I see it all the time. If this thread gets any attention, I'm sure it will get some people who like to boast about their page rank. Maybe they do so with good reason; maybe some people get good page rank for legit reasons, and others just know how to scam their way into page rank. But, I'll say it,,, I am highly skeptical of page rank. I only consider inbound links when looking at ads. What do you think?
PR for me is just consolation prize, prefer minor (traffic) or major jackpot (adsense) ... they boast their PR so they can sell their link with higher prices
I feel the same way too. PR shouldn't be the end of things. PR can be easily manipulated! Ranking and traffic are much more important.
Google created this PR craze, GOD knows for what? Today, more than half of the internet is filled with sites that exists just for PR! People build up sites and then the network to pass on PR internally and then sell links on them! I have known many people who simply follow this model to earn revenue. I doubt if Google is not aware of this deficiency, but I guess it does not want to hit its own foot! Regards, RightMan
I think PR is just googles way to show its power over us look how many people get affected on getting a high PR or when their PR drops or doesn't go up. a cruel google joke indeed. =(
Agreed mrandrei. Which site do y'all use to rank a site's traffic though? Alexa? Incidently, Traffic stats can be faked too. :-/ hmmmm ,,,, I'm coming to the same conclusion as when I started. Backlinks are the only thing I trust.
Hey, that's my line. LOL But, you will have to agree that whenever you see a increase in your page rank you feel satisfied. Many guys feel that they have achieved something or are making a good progress with the site. In fact, I think page rank can also be termed as the progress made by the site.
I'm not entirely disagreeing with you guys. But I remind you of an example I just brought up. Someone is selling a site with 2 crummy links in Google (I'm not exagerating); that same site has a PR of 3. Are you going to tell me that that site gets a lot of authentic traffic because of its page rank? It's sort of like a catch 22. If web author's only goal is to get PR, than they might wind up with a site that gets almost no traffic but a misleading PR. So, now maybe they can rip people off and pretend it gets traffic. On the other hand, if a web author only worries about getting traffic, than I suspect a page rank will naturally follow that is reasonably accurate. The point is, there is no way for a buyer who is a perfect stranger to know.... A smart buyer of links should look for quality inbound links, little else matters when dealing with unfamiliar parties (besides, of course, similar topics). Am I wrong?
PR is a waste of time but many noobs think it does .. I ignore the PR and concentrate on traffic and SERPS (and you can rank in SERPS with PR 0 i have a site with PR0 ranking top10 dfor a 77 milion keyphrases results and for others that are 20-50 milion results ..)
I don't put much stock in Page Rank that is shown on the toolbar, because it can be months old by the time you see it. Everyone is vying for links from high PR sites, just so they can increase their own PR which does nothing for them in the SERP, "...one of 200 factors" this has been stated numerous times on multiple forums, PR is only one small factor in the ranking of a page in the results. Everyone thinks that it plays a huge role, but it doesn't, otherwise low PR pages would not outrank high PR pages. As for the advertising, or selling of links, IMO if anyone is looking to buy advertising from any website, they should request to see the server traffic logs, not their PR. Buying links is only buying advertising, and since PR won't help you on it's own in climbing the results page, you should spend your money in better places, either with PPC campaigns or through high traffic sites that may give you a click through.
Can't it be faked pagerank? Have seem some people in this forum advertising their PR4 site, after which someone pointed out how it was faked.
Agreed. PR nowadays has some connotation that your site is "reputable" when you're trying to sell it.
..for me PR is a plus factor for a site/blog...it's a google thing, most people are focusing so much on PR but i believe that there is much more important things to do than just focusing with that..
