I have two portals based on joomla and google doesnt index it. Are there any problems with SEO of Joomla CMS ?
I have 20 site on Joomla and they all indexed by G, Y! and MSN. Try to install SEF module for Joomla.
Try SEF Advance: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,362/Itemid,35/
the standard works fine i use joomla on my phpfox site , and it will get indexed fine, i have sef urls turned on which you might decide you wish to do, although normal url's wont be the problem
lordmenace: I can see you're point, but it doesn't really answer the question... the link by itself does not answer whether or not it is SEF. When you say "There's your answer" I think you mean "check out www.homebrewhowto.com and check out the links from there... all SEF and so there's your answer". But anyway... I believe SEF Advance is commercial, but Open SEF at http://open-sef.org is open source and free if you want that. Joomla by itself does make SEF links if you set it in the site configuration and make sure your htaccess is correct, but the SEF links themselves are not really 'user friendly' or 'keyword rich'. These other components all add this extra level of SEF-ness...
Most of the SEO is done by the admin. You choose your own keywords, page title, description. Is Joomla SEF? It's all up to you.
Go to google and type in opensef. There are tutorials on how to install. It is different for everyone. YES, it is completely search engine friendly. The links are determined on the name of the article so, if the name of your article was snow your URL would be www.yourname.com/section/category/snow.html
Not sure how helpful all this discussion is. as a newbie, I like direct instructions rather than high brow discussions. Are there any problems with seo of joomla? NO. If you want to have the alias (found under the title of your article, and auto generated from your title) used as the URL, they you need to turn on SEF buttons in the global configuration. And they will only work if you change the htaccess file via ftp on your server RIGHT? That was the biggest issue for me regarding seo urls. But I wonder sometimes how much of a difference that makes? You don't need any other plugins etc. SEO "on page" is about "Page TITLE" & Description metatags and the keywords titles etc on your page. Once you have that all sorted then its a matter of getting the important high PR relevant pages to link to you. So no, there is not specific issue with joomla seo, correct?
Joomal is search engine friendly but you have not made your every page URL SEO friendly so do it and create meta according page content your portal will definitely index in search engine.
We can make it as a search engine friendly website through components and plugins. sh404SEF also will help to make your joomla website as a search engine friendly website.
Joomla good for SEO: but. depending on webmaster, he easy to control it 1. SEO will be nice if site loading faster than 5 s (about 2-4second is best) so you must to Optimise your website, enable Cache, SEF, GZIP..... 2. Validate HTML CSS, must to use Joomla template SEO optimised, 3. Use Search Engine Friendly component like SH404SEF, JoomSEF... 4. Reduce and Optimise your Images Photos on your site......
