I Need Your Opinion

I have been trying to follow some suggestions (for my website) given to me by digitalpoint members.

The newest thing is I recently organized most of the free samples of my products into a free samples section of my website and visitors have to register to gain access. Visitors also get a free relaxation mp3. The samples use to be available freely to the public, and I had them scattered all over my website. But recently I decided to require free sign up for access. However, visitors also can freely delete their account if they don't want to remain a member.

So do you think this is a bad idea (requiring signup to access the samples of my products?) Will it turn customers away?

There are some samples on the sign up page, and in a few other areas of my website. But the main bulk of samples is in the members samples area.

    Here is the website:

Here is the free samples sign up:

    Thanks,
    Ed

The main page is stuffed with too many things. It kinda distracting.....If you want to focus your prospect to the sales letter or testimonials.

The page is definitely too cluttered.

    Suggestions for http://musicmefree.com:
    1. Create new pages for:
      • About our products
      • Brainwave Entrainment Articles From Expert Sources/RSS Feed
      • Brainwave Entrainment, Isochronic Tones & Binaural Beats
    2. Get rid of the row of product links on the bottom of the main page. They're just duplicates of what you already have on the left and right menus near the top.
    3. List fewer testimonials on home/landing page. You have a full page dedicated to this and it just adds to the clutter.

    Suggestions for http://musicmefree.com/page_samples.php:

    1. Place Terms and Conditions on a separate page.
    Hope this helps!

I realize there is a lot of stuff on the first page. But here is the thing, the most popular keyword phrase for my niche is "binaural beats" which gets about 50,000 searches a month average according to Google keyword tool.

My first page is optimized for that keyword phrase, and it is usually in position 6, page 1 of Google for that keyword phrase in the search results. Sometimes is moves to page 2, but then back to page 1.

BUT when I start removing all the clutter from my main page, then my website moves way down in the search results.

The rss feed on my main page (Brainwave Entrainment Articles from Expert Sources) creates fresh unique content because it is set up so that the paragraphs are always in a different order each time the page loads. To Google this looks like fresh content which also gives me good placement.

The images on the bottom of my main page all have a alt tag with the keyword "binaural beats" etc. and they say it is good to have the main keyword on the bottom of the page (and in the middle and at the top).

But if I try to simplify the main page I lose my placement in Google.

Perhaps it is something I can experiment with, and if I lose placement again I can move it back the way it was. It has been awhile since I removed large portions of the main page, and put portions of it on other pages.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Why not play around with the content a bit? You can retain optimized components and move the less authoritative components to internal pages, no?

With the exception of the RSS feed, consider compressing the components a bit? Perhaps shorten the text/move the less important text/descriptions to internal pages?

You can still rank with less clutter. ;)

Ok. I shortened the main page, and will see if it maintains its placement in Google.

I added an "About" page as you suggested. And I moved other portions of the main page and added a simple "Learn more" which leads to an inside page.

    I kept the rss.

Great! It's already looking a lot less cluttered but still useful!

Let us know how it works out!

Ed, why would it be a bad idea to require members to sign up to your page? Sure some will be more deterred but if you want serious members there should be a sign up process IMO.

There's a lot at the bottom to hash through but as for the general layout, look and feel of the page, I think it looks rather nice. Just my $.02.

    Thanks for the feedback.

The article links (and paragraphs) at the bottom are actually one single rss link. But I adjusted it so that 11 paragraphs show each time the page is loaded. These paragraphs are actually pargraphs of each article linked to. Since there are over 30 articles, then each time the page is loaded the pargraphs are scrambled, and in a different order. This way when the page is spidered it looks like fresh content to some search engines. That is why I am keeping it there for now since I don't have a forum or any other means to create fresh content. Ultimately I hope to write my own articles about brainwave entrainment, and add them to the rss feed instead of gathering articles at articlebase like it is right now (which requires me to link to the original author etc.)

Very busy home page.. I'd remove the RSS section, put it on its own page and just link to it.
