Umm... I've been banned three times now. Check my post count. There is no protection from a cranky mod. Rules are irrelevant if you: Don't enforce the rules you post (i.e. no personal attacks) Enforce a bunch of rules you don't post (i.e. no posting negative feedback to mod sales threads)
I have read over a few post here and it seems that the forum owners no longer have the members best interest in mind. It's about what they want and not use. Sort of like a government made up of the people that begins to enslave the same people who put them in power. There should be a maximum of 2 bumps per thread or something like that. Since I can't bump threads I just make the same thread again. Surely that doesn't help the forum by having two of the same threads. Truth of the mater is some threads need more info from the thread starter to help with sells. Even if I forgot to mention something in my original post and went back to add it, it could be considered bumping and I could get banned. The content creation section is out of control, the content section is full of people wanting to sell articles, you can't leave i-trader reps for deals under $5 and the freebie section isn't so free. These are issues that need the most attention, not banning for adding a reply which is the point of a forum.
The easiest way to moderate a forum is by banning/infracting someone. That is just a click away and our Mods are happy doing it. However, moderating forums is a little strenuous with the amount of threads that open daily.
So let me get this straight. Since the owners of the site haven't hired enough mods and you guys are looking for easier ways to deal with the load, your solution is banning? It's not that what we are saying needs to be changed is unreasonable. You are saying it would make your job harder therefore it won't change?
Nope. Banning isn't a solution, it's a consequence. Our solution is to set up rules. When people don't follow the rules they get infractions/bans. And just to clarify a few things... There are no owners. Just one owner. Shawn Hogan. Also, mods are not "hired". That would imply that we get paid for what we do. We don't. This is all strictly volunteer basis. I didn't follow the rest of your statement...
i think what he meant was that it is unfair not to change the rules (bans, infractions etc) just because it would make your job harder. remember he thought that the reason why you ban people is because it is the easy way out for you. i didn't know the mods on DP were volunteers i certainly respect them a lot more now. i can understand the loyalty since i am a volunteer on other forums
How many forums do you know which pay mods? Don't wanna work for free, f*ck off, we dont need you (this is not the case on dp, bcz no one is here to make new mods )
i don't have a list at hand but i thought with so many users, moderation would have almost been a full time job i didn't understand the last part where u said "no one is here to make new mods" were u hinting at Shawn's inactivity?
Wow -- gworld is now banned. It looks like someone finally woke up and enforced one of the published rules! Hopefully it is a permanent ban, as stated in the official rules. Thraxed still isn't banned, even though he continues to engage in personal attacks.
I guess he attacked the right person this time. One can only hope. AnthonyCEA was tame by comparison. And that's not saying a lot. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=512154 "I would request that any personal attacks in this forum be brought to our attention via the "Report Post" function. " Ok, this get's done routinely. "Personal attacks will not be tolerated at DP and offenders will be banned IMMEDIATELY AND PERMANENTLY!" Really? No, not really.. All one really has to do as a moderator is read the rules... Then re-read them. They've been in place for some time now. They are not hard to interpret and impossible to mis-interpret.
