I am planning to install the apache server on my pc in order to test my planned website. But i have a few inquiries:
how will i install apache on this pc with the following config:
    winxp pro sp2
have already installed mysql 5, php and IIS

will i casually install the server on my pc without any further changes to the already installed programs?

will i still access the localhost on my internet explorer?

I'm 17 years old and taking up BS ECE.....
I will truely appreciate your help...
hope to hear from you guyz....
    tnxz

    Why do you need apache??:)
still if you need it just change the apache webserver port(edit httpd.conf) to some other and try. Or on the other hand try changing IIS port website properties in IIS.

Installing Apache On IIS reads just like Intalling microsoft linux for MacOS .. don't you think so?

Just install the whole bundle, mysql, phpmyadmin, php, apache.
Apache2Triad is a complete bundle... and all you have to do is basically just click on setup - and you're ready.

By the way, you can run .pl and .cgi (perl scripts, etc.) on IIS. You'll need to create an extension mapping in IIS, but it's possible.

However, in order to get the most out of cgi, ie. ModPerl, running it on Apache is a requirement.

In IIS manager, right click on your website, and select Properties. Select the Home Directory tab. Under Executable permissions, select Scripts only (I guess you could also select try Scripts and Executables).

Next under the Home Directory tab, click on the Configuration button. This will bring up your file extension mappings. On here, you will probably have a .pl extension, copy what you see on the extension to a new extension names .cgi.

Give that a shot, let me know if that works.
