What am I to do with www.ipodname.com I feel like if i make a site and get traffic I will get sued so what should I do?
It's trademark infringement if you use it in any way related to Apple or a music player. I would just return the domain to the registrar.
It depends on how long it's been and the registrar - but I wouldn't worry about a few dollars. If you get sued, it will cost you a lot more.
turn it into IP overdose name.com sorry it's TM infringement so you're best bet is to turn it back to the registrar.
Yes it's a naughty thing to do, how ever I host several IPOD hack sites and they've been up and running quite awhile without any troubles. So my thoughts to you are go for it till you run into trouble and change names.
I travel alot between the following, Canada, Holland, And Panama Hell I used to do it, made a easy 10k+ with a porn site before the "copyright" feds caught up with me so I had a fun run. Plus making people happy always made my day, wouldn't it make yours All the IPod hack sites I host still seem to not have run into any problems so far so all we can do is just wait until apple comes after them
yes, like ipod, twitter is a registered trademark. Is twitter just in it or is it the oly term you've used and how long ago did you establish the domain?
OK, that explains a lot of your legal advice. You travel or live in places where you don't worry about any legal ramifications, and probably host in similar places, so it is easier for you to take chances. You are a "hit it and run" type of webmaster. Make money at all costs. Good for you. Now I understand where you are coming from with some of your advice..you have no fear of getting caught or sued.
I've almost been sued over an adult site I used to run but the guy suing me was really full of it. Claiming I owned other sites without any proof, saying I said I was going to kill him etc etc. I wouldn't consider myself a hit and run webmaster as I don't really make websites anymore and I've really only had one website that I've gone full blown to make alot of money on. Now I just host people who like to do this. Do I believe in free speech and such, yes of course. Do I support warez and the scene? Yes of course because in some ways it does promote videos. Do I support them loosing money? No not at all. If anything in a perfect world they would offer say a 30 minute sample on the net for people. Since well, alot of people are NOT going to go buy a movie from a 2 minute preview that has all the funny parts tossed in it (Like so many movies I've seen). So it's iffy with me. Also, Canada is sort of a safe haven for private downloaders as the police there have publicly said they don't want to go after "pirates" they are more busy with real crimes like murder and drug dealing instead of making the movie tycoons even richer then they are now. I mean look at them, all of them are better off then us low and middle class people and they want more. They can't get enough. If you want to go further into discussion we can if you'd like to.
I can respect your opinion on the matter, especially since you are not a US citizen and my opinions include my respect of US law...except this one: No one has a right to justify stealing my product with their personal determination of how much money I should be able to make. It's really no ones business, and if you don't want the product don't buy it. that seems to be more of an opinion based on envy and spite (we call it player hating) , than any other. I am sure that same line of thought doesn't stop you from buying gasoline, flying on airplanes, and using petroleum based products like plastic does it ? No one is richer than oil tycoons. I come from the school of thought that what someone makes is none of my business, God Bless them on their success, but they are not ruling dictators that control a nation with an iron fist and steal from the citizens, therefore there is no noble justification for it....it's just theft
Gasoline is a part of life and everyone lives around it and it is a need, not a want. It's different if it's a independent film compared to a Hollywood movie made by say warner brothers or paramount pictures. I was just saying they already make tons of money and just want more. Look at movie grosses from the 80's and 90's and look at them today (Be sure to check the wikipedias on them cause on there website it's mainly lies) They still make hundreds of millions of dollars and I don't really see why they need more. If I really enjoy a movie or a television show, I do buy it to support the makers in the hope that my purchase will help create more of that product. Just like how I own all of the south park dvds (Minus the christmas special, saving up for that one soon) Because I simply love the work and want to see more of it so I support it. Just like movies, I love friday the 13th flicks so I did what any fan would do, bought it. Now a days I find alot of movies are pretty crappy and all follow the exact same plot line has many others (My bloody valentine, hell who never seen that ending coming) But again I'll say if people really like something they buy it, I know alot of people who will go out and buy a CD to support the artist and thats nice and all but when you break it down, artists don't make that much from CD sales. There main profits come from concerts. I remember a documentary awhile back saying that the artist gets about $1 from a $20 CD and the rest goes towards the CD itself cost, manufacturing cost and the studios cost. So in a way music artists get fucked just as much as we do, but there all still millionairs. They all live better then us, are healthier then us. Heck look at sports, if a hockey player gets hurt (say pulls a muscle in his leg) He goes to the hospital that same night and gets CT scans done, everything lightning fast while us average joes have to wait months and months. Basically what I'm saying is these people are already rich and the way the world looks at it there better then us poorer people. They get more respect, there not bitched at as much, they get the top care. Hell they get so much better then we all do and just cause there talented? The communists had some good points. Though I don't agree with all of it I do agree that we should all be equal people, not equal as in money or thing wise as the people who work harder do deserve more.
