u need the check the backlinks may be the PR3 status might have came from a high page rank blog and it might have lost its page rank as well that leads to yours. or there may be many of valuable inbound links might have expired, there are half a dozen of possible reasons you just need to lookout for it. try building the links once more you may possibly get back your status back.

There are many reasons why Websites Lose PR, but none of these can be said as an reason of PR loss.

    1) If the pages contains spammy content then Google may penalize it.
    2) Linking out to unrelated sites may also cause PR loss.
    3) PR depend on backlinks. If sites backlinking to you remove your links then you may experience PR loss.
    4) If sites linking to you are penalized by google you may not get the link juice of these sites which can result in PR loss.

But I think that instead of PR, you should think about SERP's. PR doesn't matter too much.

Welcome to the stinging pain of the Google slap. Only SEOs and masochists have the resilience to endure it...

The site is obviously doing something Google doesn't like. Probably something stephen082 listed. And in general, I agree with domaintrader85, you must have used some "bad" SEO techniques. Again, things Google doesn't like.

Diagnosis: hire a real SEO to fix it or start doing your homework by joining seomoz or seobook.

if the PR is lost, then most likely your client's PR backlinks are lost as well. try to find out how many backlinks the site had before and how many there are now. to get the PR back, you will need to get backlinks form other PR pages

The reason may be, you would have got your backlinks from spammy pages or some bad neighbourhood pages. One of the main thing is, If you have more OFF TOPIC backlinks (links from the sources which are not related to your site) that will bring down the PR. I am sure about it. However, if you want to up again, get backlinks from related niche sources as well as feed your site regular(Update your content or add new unique content), daily feeding is even better.....

To go from a PR 3 to PR 0 is a major issue. It will have nothing to do with your link building. The only time I have seen this is when someone is selling links. Google will simply give your site a PR 0 and the links you are selling become worthless.

I would put my money on selling links. I would also look at duplicate content?

Are they still indexed? They might have been penalized for buying links, etc... If you're still indexed then remove the paid links, go on a legitimate link building campaign and wait for your PR to go up again..

Your PR before could be a fluke PR. I suggest you just continue link building for your pages, then wait. If it still remain 0, there's a possibility that your penalized.

The site getting downgraded directly to 0 from 3 is a steep fall and looks more likely to be a case of penalization!

Also, if the PR3 was accorded in the last update that occurred at the end of last month, then it looks more likely to be re-adjustment as I have seen a whole lot of people getting good PRs in the end of May, only to see them vanish in 10-15 days! :(

    Regards,

There's many reason a PR could drop. The page that giving you backlinks might drop in it's PR value, or your homepage's PR being distributed among dofollow links within the homepage, or it could also possibly a penalty.
