If you are a US resident you do. The earned income is reported to IRS. I do not know about non-US residents.

And if you make enough, you need to pay taxes quarterly, here in the USA.

I declare all tax on my web generated income.

It may only cost me a few hundred so i figure it is better than paying the few thousand dollar fine

depends on your income. If this is your first year, then you don't need to worry. How long have you been receiving income from adsense? Is it being paid directly to you or a corp?

I am not in US. The earnings are not automatically reported to our tax department (IRD) here in New Zealand, but I declare all earnings when I file my returns each year. I have been doing that for the last two financial years now as I started with Adsense 1.5 yrs ago. I would recommend to all who are wondering whether to pay their taxes or not to do it. As someone else said, it's much better to pay your taxes than get into trouble with the tax department.

In India adsense revenue (any dollar revenue as a matter of fact) is counted as "foreign exchange" earning, hence no tax! :) :D

By law any income earned in excess of $600 per year must be reported to the IRS by the person issuing the check. Therefore, Google (and most other legitimate affiliates) sends the IRS payout information for everyone who made more than $600.

By law, you are suppose to report every damn dime you ever made. But don't forget to calculate your costs as well because that comes off the top. Hosting, Domain Registration, Membership Fees, Internet Access, Laptop, etc.

Actually, a lot of people on these forums just getting started with this could probably even claim a loss after expenses and pay less taxes on their regular job income as well.
