do link requests work

    What is everyone's experience with asking websites for a link from their site? Is it worth spending time one?

    What percentage do you think are likely to put up the requested link?

    Most of the websites I have asked to link to my website have:

    1: Not replied
    2: Said No
    3: Asked for a link back

    But

    I have had a few who really liked my site and linked to it without asking for anything in return.

    I have emailed 7 sites that had page rank of 2 or more I got 3 back saying they would exchange links with them I was straight out with them the traffic I got the amount of page views a day and they agreed and since then the site is now a page 3 rank so I say it does help.
