I just want to guy lets you know abut my experience with GoDaddy hosting and I recommend that you never get their hosting. So I have purchased a shared hosting plan from them, they setup the hosting account form me. Finally, I was ready to upload my files. I decided to test if everything was working fine and I created a simple index.php. Guess what, it didn't work, I received "Forbidden, you don't have permission to access / on this server." So I called the GoDaddy and I explain to them what the problem is and they told me "You need to fix the problem yourself, it's nothing to do with us, you have problems with your script." So I told them I don't have any script installed on my server yet, except a index.php file with a "test" word in it. I asked them if they can take a look at my server permissions and you know what they told me, "I can't do that, you have to do that yourself." so then I told him "I would like to get my full re-found". So now I got my money back and I'm never gonna use GoDaddy as my hosting.
i think the forbidden is due to .htacess ? anyway you got the refund, the godaddy support is very bad now good luck with your next host
That may have been actually the problem, but I did not upload the .htaccess file, it may have come with the hosting already thought. I wonder whats the support doing on GoDaddy if they can't help you with your problem, they should be fired. If I would be running a web hosting company or any company and I would see something like that, I would fire the person right away.
Yes, but their control panel is so bad that you can't find anything there. Also, isn't it suppose to be the support person's job to help a customer and not to say something like "You need to fix it yourself."
Godaddy is the worst service provider as far as the hosting is concerned, for domains they are a bit reliable, although I personally have two bad experience with them, but they are minor problems. They never help any website owner who are purchasing hosting space from them.
Yeah, with domains they are not that bad either, because if I have a problem with a domain name they always help me out, but their support for hosting is horrible. But I will be changing my registrant soon, because I don't want my domain name to be hosted with them anymore after my experience with their hosting.
That is the big problems with the big name like hostgator and godaddy and all other, There support is worst.
They don't use cPanel, they use their own web based control panel which sucks. They don't even have ftp information to use your own software to upload your files, they have a java web based ftp which totally sucks, because it goes so slow.
No mate, Hostgator is much better than any other company as far as my experience is concerned, I am using their hosting plans from last 3-4 years and am a much satisfied customer of them.
I used HostGator before and I was pretty satisfied with them, but I wanted to try something new and it didn't quite work, heh.
I am sure you haven't explored the control panel properly. As it is, you can use any of the popular FTP tools to upload / download your content, and as such, GoDaddy Support would help you if there is a problem with hosting account, however they would not touch anything that has been created by you (even if it is a one word file) .. What happens when you remove your index.php file? does the default welcome.html show up? Also - what hosting did you choose, windows or linux? Which version of PHP has been used to setup is it 4 or 5? What prevented you to setup hosting yourself? It is straight forward process in the control panel.
I may not have looked through all the settings in control panel, because the control panel totally sucks and when I contacted their support their told me to fix the problem myself. This is ridiculous, uploaded a single file and didn't work. When I asked them to check if my permissions were correct they told me they can't do it, that I have to do it, nonsense. I'm glad I got my re-found back. When I removed my index.php the welcome page did not show up. I chose the Linux hosting, php version 5 I believe so. I have setup the hosting myself through them, but the activation took 24 hours. So it said the complete setup will take 24 hours.
What all files do you see when you connect with ftp? <? phpinfo(); ?> would give you all the details about PHP capabilities of your server, provided it has been setup. And to set it up, you would have to setup hosting username and password, else nothing works. I am sure your server has not been setup properly. Would suggest you to login to your control panel and look at the status of your hosting account (pending activation, setup in progress, setup complete) Thx
I don't remember what files there were, because I have canceled the hosting and I have request a re-found, but I believe there was stats folder, php.ini file, .htaccess file, and of course my index.php file with "test" word inside of it. I have setup everything correct with the hosting and when I was ready to upload the files the setup was complete, within like 8 hours. I don't really care about it anymore, because I'm not gonna use them anymore, just want to share my experience with them and their support.
Hostgator support is actually really good. I haven't used godaddy since 1999-2000ish so I can't speak from experience. Sorry to hear about your experience with them...
Lol I hosted with them before. I got so annnoyed after the 3rd day that I just requested a refund. I think everyone should do the same. Even the cheapest of home-hosted or small hosting companies is way better.
