Do you think Directory Submission is a must for us? All these while, I was concentrated on contents until I saw a lot of people in forum mentioned about directory submission, that's where I have this question. Please help if you have the answer. Thanks

I'm not too sure. It might kickstart linkbuilding, but content is ALWAYS king.

It can be a waste of time, but, on the other hand, if you get into dmoz that'll build a vast link base for you just from that - so it's well worth the effort with some.

Directories are a start to your link building. They don't necessarily provide the best links but they are easy to get.

What directory would you recommend? Or is very industry specific? (sorry if this is a naive question but I'm just starting)

It's not really an a must. The questions are:
    What is your goal?
Why do you need directory submissions?
    What are you after?
If you want to promote and optimize your site, rank high on certain keywords, needs one way natural backlinks... then directory submissions can be one of your options to do off-the-page strategies.

niche directory are better but you can also submit to general directories under the correct category. Also, choose directories with good page rank values and uses do follow attributes.

Always submit your site to directories, it's a basic link building strategy. You might not get the best backlinks but it helps boost your overall pagerank in the long run.

I usually submit to a few good directories but try to stay way clear of crowded and spammy directories, getting a link from a bad neighbourhood does more harm than good.

In one simple word - NO! When submitting to a directory, you should take into consideration the "quality" or the site. Is the directory full of links to spam sites, are the submissions reviewed be real people, is there a charge for the submission,,,, only to name a few?

Only submit to directories that reject most of the applications. This helps to keep the spammers out.

Google does not like paid links. So buying links in directories is not a good thing to do.

You would be much better served by commenting on blogs that are related to your sites niche,or using a forum signature in a forum that is related to your sites topic.

And very few people use directories to find sites anymore. So your not going to get any traffic from directory submission either.
