This is not sandbox related, but has to do with page age only. I know of a keyword that gets over 100,000 searches monthly (according to Adwordskstool), and has a little under 30,000 search results. It looks like a goldmine at first. The first page even has several PR 1 and PR 0 sites. The problem is, all of the pages are very aged, none less than 8 years old. Is this going to be a major obstacle in ranking against these terms? I started to look at the following pages, and they are full of high PR sites, but very few are as old. How important is site age when it comes to SEO ranking? I feel like jumping right in ,, but I have spent considerable time on "too good to be true" before.
Google does place importance on domain age. Almost to the day I saw a large jump in SERPs when one of my sites hit 1 year old. You may be able to overcome the age factor with some good backlinks and proper SEO. How much traffic are the top sites getting? If they are authority sites you would think they would have a little better PR. Did you check their backlinks?
yes on all factors, the top sites are authority, but at 130k a day I would be happy to get on the page. I can say that my only "in" would be to beat out #5 with under 100 domain back links at PR1, there are PR zeros with 100,00+ links, but PR doesn't seem to mean crap, so even if I upped them, the kill me in BLs. The top ones are the same ol' Birate crap, that will never go away, I am sure.
100,000 searches monthly for exact match or broad match? With only 30k search results I think you are using broad match, which is not helpful at all.
that is something i am not shure about... i have sites ranked very well with recent registered domains (even in medium competitive niches)... in the other hand in some niches i have a site that took about a year to get into to the top 10 places in google. during that year it seemed that it was sandboxed since it appears too far from the first pages in SERP. now it ranks in the top 10 with the same back links, the same SEO work...
My site is just 1 month old. What could I do to compete with my competitor sites? I mean how could I bring my site in first 10 search results.
the odd anecdotal is nice, but doesn't change that fact that *statistically* it is harder to get a new site ranked than an aged domain.
Age has not affected my page ranks. They ranked just as well at a few months old as they do now. You will certainly rank well quicker for less competitive words than the more competitive ones.
Domain age is a factor, but a very minor one IMO. It only seems to be a major factor in sandboxing. Based on my observations and comments by Cutts, sandboxing does not appear to automatically apply to every web site. It seems to be applicable to certain industries/niches. Domain age typically is nothing that cannot be compensated for with a few extra quality backlinks from relevant pages on other sites with the targeted keywords (or slight variations) in the link text. And page age IMO is totally irrelevant. I have pages that I put up on my site that immediately will jump to the top 20 w/ millions of results and remain there indefinitely with no inbound links other than the ones on my site.
"phrase match", and the reason I thought I had a winner. I know why you would say that, and that is the reason it tickled me so. I could have a good one here for a lone gunman.
Age doesn't count that much Plus you say that first site has only PR 1 well serp position and PR are 2 way diffrent things ...
There are 200 different factors which Google analyze before determining the SERP for a particular page. Domain age is one of these factors. If there are two sites, one 5 years older, properly optimized and with good number of backlinks then it will outrank its competitor sites with same optimization level and backlink but comparatively new domains.
I think domain age factor has grate value in the eyes of google... let's say you have 2 domains ... once is fresh and one is 2 years old ... you start SEO on both domains at same day ... but it would be easy get traffic and position in google with the domain 2 years old
Well I think everything depends on your competition. If the websites of your competition are well optimized and old you will have a hard time beating them. Also if there is a huge competition for your keywords it is less likely to rank a new website for these keywords.
The age of a web site appears to be a more and more important ranking factor in the search engines. An older web site holds more trust than a new site because it has been around a while and established itself. Seo Tutorial
http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html age is not an issue at all until you get into maybe the last 10% of ranking potential to be squeezed out of a site.
