FF just cripples my CPU. I've always used AOL as my default (why? Because I'm lazy, that's why) but I installed FF after hearing all the hype. It's a nice browser but AOL suits my needs and I've never had a problem with it. FF sucks up a third of my memory - on top of the 25% I'm already using to run AOL.

As long as IE is released with new PCs it will always be number 1. The kind of people who frequent these forums are obviously going to be more savvy with new developments, but the vast majority of PC users wouldn't know the difference between IE, FF or a plate of boiled cabbage. Joe Bloggs simply doesn't care, as long as he can get his email, check his bank balance and whack off to Internet porn.

It's not an age thing. I'm 60, & I've been using FF for a while. Love it, love the cool extensions. I know lots of people, many younger than I am who are clueless about alternatives.

Mwahahahaha Firefox = Mozilla = Netscape.

Netscape went open source ages ago and the result was Firefox.

Yes AOL releases versions of Netscape which is different but Firefox came directly from older versions of netscape.

As I said earlier FF and Netscape are not the same.
FF uses same but inhanced Mozilla core once used by Netscape..
but as Overall browser they are way too different...

@ Ministrel - I have used Opera 9 but must say its not as good as Opera 8.
not very much stable, having unknown problem on XP with SP2 installed.

huh... I haven't used netscape since grade school lol and I hated it. I'm a firefox guy now. IE can go fly a kite lol.

Like Tyler said, the plugins and extensions for firefox really make it a great choice.

Basically, Firefox rules. The only problem with firefox is opening media. My browser always jams up when playing Windows Media Player files! gggrrr

    It's not incorrect at all.

A simple search in google proves it to be correct Minstrel.

"firefox is open source version of netscape"

I didn't need to search it up however, you seem to need factual proof.

And current computers came directly from older versions of the abacus... but they're not the same as the abacus are they?

And current automobiles are direct descendants of the hand cart, the horse and buggy, and the steam engine - but they're not the same either, are they?

Your arguments are irrelevant and infantile. Give it up.

    Here are my site's stats:
    IE 58.81%
    Firefox 34.04%
    Opera 3.62%
    Safari 2.13%
    Netscape 0.56%
    Mozilla 0.46%
    Camino 0.19%
    Konqueror 0.09%
    Googlebot 0.09%

But be warned... Playing with extensions extensively can cost you some of that stability - so if anything strange starts to happen when you have installed an extension or a dozen of them... it's probably due to an extension so just start in safe mode and start from there enabling one extension by one to see which one is causing troubles... Just thought you should know that as a new Firefox user. Welcome!

I would agree with you, but - tomorrow a friend of mine will bring me his laptop since it feels like it has been taken over - at times he can't turn it off, he frequently encounters all kinds of pages being opened for him, violently, without him being able to stop it.
He uses IE and just like you said, he didn't even know the difference... but I doubt he'll look back after I install Firefox for him.
