I have a couple questions, and think is is probably the best place for them.

I am new to the entire adsense era of the website building, but am very familiar with HTML and web design. I actually graduated with an associates in multimedia design. Unfortunatley that was six years ago and havent touched my skills since last week.

I have begun to build a website full of articles, some of which will be original some of which will be used from free article databases.

My questions basically revolve around terms, and if different strategies are worth it.

First, if I use articles from other sites, are they really even worth it? Basically what I am asking is if these articles are already on hundreds of sites are they even useful content?

Second, how successful in general are article based websites?

Third, how successful are websites that use some form of RSS-HTML script to make automatic updates from RSS feeds?

Fourth, Can someone explain to me what exactly the importance of social bookmarking is? Is it just to get crawled faster?

and Finally, I have seen it recommended here to have a blog on blogger that is associated with my website why is that? Is it just a way to generate backlinks or am I missing something else?

Thank you all if you take the time to answer any of my questions!

So if I understand the purpose of your site, it is strictly for Adsense income. If you are thinking of making a decent income, don't expect it from Adsense. But, I will answer your questions.

Articles from other sites will be ok for an adsense site (but NOT for anything else). The problem you will face is that your site will not do well in the search engines unless you rewrite the articles by about 40% or more.

Article based web sites can do very well. But there is no finite answer. There are tons of them out there that don't.

    RSS feeds are good.

You are right about social bookmarking. And in addition, if you luck out and get a lot of followers etc, and do your linking properly, the additional backlinks will really help your site out with google ranking.

    Good luck.

Yes I suppose it would be considered a adsense site. I am not attempting to get rich quick or anything. I am mainly using it just to brush up on my skills and learn about adsense and seo. One day of course I would like to make something more noble but I have forgotten a lot, and have even more to learn. I figure even if I only make fifty cents a day I will be happy with it being my first real site designed and made for myself in five years.

Thank you for answering my questions. Is there any advice, or good articles that anyone can come up with for me? I am trying to sponge any information I can at this point.

This forum is pretty good to get some answers. Just need to be careful who you listen to:) Webmasterworld is another good technical forum that might be of some help.

If your html skills are good, you could easily make money by designing landing pages and small mini sites for marketers. That is one of the biggest obstacles IMers face when starting out trying to make money online.

On the other hand, learning the basics of keyword research, SEO, driving traffic to your sites etc is needed for Adsense sites, as well as marketers. That's why I would go for the biggest bang for the buck, marketing. In the old days, putting up any old site with adsense on it would make you some decent money with very little work and knowledge. Not true anymore. Good content is now needed for any type web site.

    Good luck!!

Are you thinking about "duplicate content" and not being listed in a search, or about your visitors seeing that same article elsewhere?

If it is the latter, don't worry about it too much. The Internet is HUGE. Even if one of your visitors read that same article elsewhere, the chances are that he may want to read it again anyway, so....

If the articles are good, publish them on your site. Good content is what brings visitors back.

*shrugs shoulders* It all depends on how well you market your site. Such sites as Askmen, About, iVillage, DavesDaily...are very successful.

Such sites have always and will always be successful.

    Why wouldnt they be?

Not too successful, I'm afraid. Askmen, as an example, don't have that many using such feeds.

But that is not to say to not do it. Experiment with it.

There is no importance to it at all. Most do it because of that reason, but rarely does it work. And of the rare times that they do get lucky and land high, they still do not get that many readers.

Noobs think it is worth something, like signatures and Twitter, but they also have dead sites, so....

Who knows what they meant. Many here don't even know what in the hell they are talking about.

Just know that a blog in a site is used to help bring visitors back. But, if the blog is crap, you are putting in all that work for nothing.

It isn't that important to have one, anyway.
