Site banned

One of my site was banned from Google some time ago, I am not yet sure about exact reason. But for the future, could linking from one to another site on same IP result in being deindexed from Google. I see people do it, but can it possibly result in deindexing.

I don't think they will remove your site from there index for that but they will consider it spamming. Make the links nofollow.

Yes it is possible that linking from one site to another on the same IP can result in deindexing by Google.

Since in fact nobody knows how will Google behave, I will avoid it for now, since it is not of much importance for me, although I don't think linking on same IP will result in deindexing except in case where is it obviously spamming. I saw many pages interlinked on same IP and they are doing well.

not true. I have been doing it for 5 years on a bunch of sites. I make the links nofollow though.

And making then nofollow is the reason you haven't been penalized.

That would be news to me. I didn't think that would get a site deindexed. also, did you send a request for reinclusion?

Definitely send the reinclusion request. Google is quite lenient as far as that is concerned.

jayw1988 - I am pretty sure I've seen a video from Google specifically saying that if not done excessively (and/or spammy) it couldn't harm you in any way. In other words, if you are not linking just for the shake of linking and your sites are relevant, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Can you please confirm that you had this happen to you? If not, any other reason to believe that it does indeed happen? Do tell...

Would love to hear others' opinion on the matter too please.

Getting frequent links from same IP websites can certainly become problematic, though one off incident can hardly matter much.

You got to avoid such backlinking from your same IP websites too often. Do it only once in a while, to not raise red flag at big G.

Cross linking can hurt your rankings and get you deindexed especially if the sites you are trying to cross link are not related. So what is the scenerio with your sites?

i had two blogspot blogs [so obviously they are same IP].I did too much linking between them - almost in every blog post. This led to the deindexing of blogs. But it was very aggressive link building.I dont think you will be banned just for a site wide link.

I find it very weird that we have so many mixed views on this matter.... I honestly thought that the answer was much simpler.

Let's assume that I have 50 sites about finance. Would my sites get de-indexed if I were to link them all together?!

If you’re not paying for a dedicated IP on a server then you will be hosted with hundreds of other site on the same IP. Servers use header tags to identify sites on same IP. The only way Google will de index you for an IP is if the IP is associated with bad neighbors.

The real answer is that you will never know. It may be nothing to do with the IP address being the same it could be related to other factors and trying to pin it to one thing is in my experience not acurate.
