No. Twitter is not profitable for SEO, it;s profitable for promotion and instant traffic it's not valuable for SEO. As per my knowledge any social networking site doesnot have SEO valu it will give you instant traffic so it will not give you any kind of backlink

I agree with you to a certain extent, but I think a big variability is in the quality of the site you are sending the traffic to. If it is a small one page site or parked page I think the people hit their back button faster than they even read half of it, but if the site you are sending traffic to has some worthy content and catches their interest, you may find the retention, bookmarking, and conversion to be a little better.
I dont know much about using Twitter as an seo tool, but the advertising potential is endless. All you gotta do is get alot of followers and submit a tweet about whatever you're trying to promote. By doing this you should see atleast a hundred clicks.
