So I have been promoting this site a little bit:
    http://digitalstrategies.ca/

I have been building a few backlinks here and there, nothing major. But I noticed that i have 1267 inbound links according to Yahoo:

    http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/search?p=digitalstrategies.ca&bwm=i&bwmo=&bwmf=s

and a grand total of 3 according to Google:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&num=100&q=link:digitalstrategies.ca&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

some of these links have been up for a while. any ideas why this is?

    Thanks for your help

Hello Deltron, Google always hide the links and never shows the nofollow links to your site and yahoo shows the exact links to your site. This is the only reason that your site have 1267 links in yahoo site explorer and only 3 in google. My site have above 6000 inbound links but google only shows 73 of them.

the best alternativ for you to have a clear view on your backlinks is to use backlinks checker tools such as : backlinkwatch.com/

i use backlinkwatch.com, but if google isn't seeing backlinks I don't really see the point of them.

As for this point, its the same with me. I have had numerous links which were showing up there, but are now gone.

I agree, Google always hides links. To get a good idea you should always use Yahoo. Another tool you may want to try is linkdiagnosis.com.

I have the same problem. Lots more backlinks in yahoo that in google. It can't be a matter of nofollow because almost all of my backlinks are dofollow. Yet they don't show in google. Anyone know why?

Btw, how does one get 1451 links??

I figured Google would not display nofollow links also however a comment of mine on Matt Cutts blog (nofollow) regularly shows up in link:mysite.com in Google.

Maybe he has been messing about with removing nofollow on occasion, I doubt it though...

Generally speaking, google could not show all the backlinks to us,if you want to know your backlinks on google, you should use google webmaster.

check Google Webmaster Tools to find how many back links your site has on Google.

Google is never going to tell us exactly which backlinks it is counting, and how much weight they carry. It is a guessing game, and ultimately they are weighing the quality score that they've assigned to our sites, ( at least if we've used Adwords ).
Another factor is, how fresh the backlinks are, and for how long a period of time they have persisted.
