I have seen opt-in smack in the middle and above the fold which is a major 'leak' for the affiliate. The aff may have paid for the click and now the surfer has an opportunity to just come back later or never, however the merchant has access to the surfer forever. Are you still promoting such landing pages? What about if you as an aff have your own LP and opt-in form so after someone optin to your page would they be directed to merchant's page which also has an opt-in? Or do you ask for a different LP from merchant without opt-in form? <-- So many questions, in 1 post, huh
I still promote products with opt-ins because the potential customer may not purchase but opted in for the newsletter which will hopefully talk them into buying later down the road and your affiliate id (cookie) will still be in their computer. You will still get the credit for the sale. that's only if they didn't click another affiliates site. The second question, you could ask for a different lp but most probably won't change it but some might...or they may have different lp's for you...but this is usually only for the products on cb that are "BIG". If you want to add a opt-in for your lp you could even if the vendors lp has one. They probably won't fill out the second opt-in but you already have them in your list cheers!
opt-ins are a great tool that can increase conversion by a lot, just be sure to subscribe yourself and see if your affiliate link is still their. If so you should definitevely promote the product.
Yep, I sign up to the opt in first and make sure they aren't overwriting my cookie, if all is good then I will promote.
yeah if they give the link direct to their site then no problem. every email marketeer of some value will entice the customer to buy it within 1 month . So check around.

personally I hate opt ins that give away too many free things to capture the lead.. 1. it sometimes makes the prospect wait and not buy asap most times..they wait to view the free material 2. sometimes the prospect might be at work and check his email then decide to buy in this case your cookie is not in that pc he visited from the first time.. no cb commission 3. a high portion of people have privacy / cookie settings that clear after each session.. again no sale on the first visit no cb commission down the track.. thats why amazon now have cookies only for the session.. buy now and get credited.. I think ClickBank would be brilliant if they had a CPA for each name captured.. that the publisher has to pay.. say $0.50.. but personally I stay clear of pages with opt ins.. @terryd.. wtf happened to our might AB's.. the froggies smashed us
I would define OPT-INS as the heart of aff products promotion. If they are not used correctly can be a huge waste of your time. It definitely boils down to the most basic principle of marketing. If your visitor sees your product once, they may not be very interested (heck everyone including me scan the sales page most of the time). The market you're in and yet the method used to advertise that product is going to dictate what kind of promotion you need to implement. As for example for a product with ROI of $18 and a low conversion rate it is not worth the effort to gather emails. The whole process of gathering emails (OPT-INS), can be very effectively applied for monthly membership products. As an example: Maverick Money Makers is great advertised with opt-ins, because of its cost. Nobody buys from first seeing the sales page. They need at least 3-4 exposures. And how you do that? OPT-INS. Visitors coming from a PPC campaign are very targeted and definitely worth catching them on OPT-INS. Imagine spending $1 per click and not having an autoresponder. That visitor if was not pre-sold properly in the past has a 1-5% chance to end up as your customer. But if you catch their emails, you could squize some more sales from your efforts. And THAT is the difference between failing or succeeding. I for myself, am very PRO when it comes to email marketing. Because after all this is what's all about. Didn't you ever receive an interesting email that felt like you need to open right away? Well that email could be successfully build on a "curiosity" marketing strategy for example. Well for me I worry that in the newsletter the affiliate products owner will have THEIR OWN affiliate link and try to steal my sale. But I might if I knew they did not do that. It does happen, some people do this.
I personally have never used an auto-responder but the more I read about how important it is, the more I'm set on doing it. I was thinking Aweber, I know GetResponse is supposed to be comparable. Anyway have a favourite?
Yes it seems very useful as more and more products on CB have opti-ins specially during exit. I prefer aweber, their price and support is great.
