I can affirm what Johnyboy says here, about Google alerts, and using them to find your interest in specific niches. I am amazed at how much Google will share with you, and this is a way to spy on, in a round about way, on your competition and or find out about when they post, or someone has made a comment about them. Another neat thing about Google alerts is that you can also find out about yourself as well! Just put your name in the alerts and you will see when someone talks smack about you and be able to do something or nothing at all about it... Jeremie
I would complete that with yet another great "tool" from Google you might or might not heard of yet: Google Trends This method can be used to get quick traffic on a specific term people are searching at the very moment. It can be even considered a money making blueprint if you like. How does it work? Easy. You just get to google trends page and see what people are looking for right now. So lets assume a new dinosaur was discovered and maybe published on all international TV channels so that many people see the news. Then a lot of them get to google and search online for that news. What happens is that, almost instantly, a plethora of traffic start pouring to websites newly created for that term. Watching Google trends, you can be well ahead and quickly put a squido lens about the topic and maybe find some related product on Clickbank to promote. The cons of this tip is that most of the time you'll find on Google Trends keywords like names (ie Obama) or whatever around which is obviously hard to monetize. But if for example you find something like Britney Spears or "north beach festival san francisco" like I found right now, you can definitely find a way to monetize around. I hope you like it Till next time
I agree. The problem is that the trends are for the U.S search market. Would be great if they broke these trends down for other areas. I think it helps if you have some kind of entertainment blog where you can post breaking news!
Thanks for posting this. Been looking into starting to post on blogs on behalf of our clients so this will come in really handy. Until a few days ago I didn't even release Twitter or Facebook was nofollow (DOH!) and funnily enough neither did my superiors (DOH DOH!)
