Hey all, I am looking for some help with Adsense...

I've a decently-trafficked, six-year old site that gets over 20K+ adsense impressions a day, but am only pulling in a couple bucks ($2) a day... Used to pull in about $4, but it has since gone down. I was hoping you guys could take a look at the site, placements of my adsense ads and let me know how you would do it differently to optimize.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers!

I would re-consider your add placement, especially on the interbasket main page. I don't think you would get any clicks on the add in the header. Try small square, or button in the top left hand side. Also, maybe every 3rd post or so have some adds.

Check out my honest online income site, I think I have great ad placement, and am pretty pleased with how it looks. Blend it right in, but not in a decieteful way or against TOS.

    Nice sites BTW

Hey Shrimpsey, thanks for the suggestion.

Anyone have leanings for text vs. image ads? My guess is I should stick with text ads.

Simplest way: check what DP does, then copy the model.

When you add a region 250x250 in the top left corner posts, and an advertising region 336 x 280 at the bottom of the contents . You'll have more access advertising.

    Example: vietluxe.com/2009/06/what-was-the-best-celebrity-feud-of-the-week

I think you are experiencing a phenomenon called "add blindness" when your content is very good and the visitors are focused only on reading your content, and do not notice the ads. or, your content is so good that they fully satisfy the visitors needs and they do not want to go somewhere else because they have found all that they needed on your blog.

Yeah I would definitely move the adds. Try to incorporate them more into the content and text body instead of along the side which makes it look like advertisements...haha.

put your vertical banner on right side because 90% of users are using right hand for mouse..

    And see the change...

Thanks so much for the example... content ads in the actual content is the slap-forehead advice... haha. I think I am oversensitive to not wanting my site to seem spammy

Thanks so much for the example... content ads in the actual content is the slap-forehead advice... haha. I think I am oversensitive to not wanting my site to seem spammy

Roughly 1500 uniques to the frontpage, and 15-20K to the forums. Mainly concerned about the main page.

Gotcha, yah, I understand that forums are low CTR... so I guess I focus my optimizing on the index/news page

It's a nice problem to have. I guess the site has good content, so adding ads within the content wouldn't be spammy, just adding more relevance...?

Right.. I think I am shifting. At the beginning, I was thinking more "ads should be ads, and should be where ads are found" - now I believe content ads in content isn't such a bad idea.

I am thinking clickbank for the current adspace, and adsense within content. What do you guys think about that?

I also had another question for those of you that use wordpress and use content ads within content. What plugins do you use? And since Adsense limits 4 ads per page, how do you optimize your index? Individual posts obviously are not problematic as they will have only the one ad, but on the main page, if I show the top-15 posts, does adsense just show four ads if all 15 posts have content ads?

Hope I am explaining myself well-enough.

Thanks all for the replies thus far, it's very much appreciated and look to implement some of the recommendations later this week...

    Cheers!
