Here is how my game works. Everyone contributes their single best tip, piece of advice, or any piece of information that can help someone new to Google Adsense.

    RULES:

    1. No duplicates/repeating
    2. Stay on topic so we can have a nice, easy to read collection of information.
    3. ONLY one tip per person, evaluate on that tip as much as you can. Try to "sell" the tip, we want to know the thought process and experience behind your advice.

My piece of advice would be...

Don't be afraid to change it around, don't be afraid to change your whole website to accomodate better ad placement. Even if you aren't that programming savvy, dive right into some tutorials and do what you need to do to get your ads in the place(s) that may or may not give you better results.

There is a big difference between 2% and 10% CTR, it is well worth the effort and that kind of "hands on" experience will help you through-out your Google Adsense career.

Consider it a solid investment of your time, you will become a better programmer(even if it is only HTML, you will use that knowledge over and over again). You will also have that "ad placement" knowledge in your brain everytime you create a new site. You will better understand what works and what doesn't works. It's a lot different when you do it yourself, than just reading it on a forum.

    I will elaborate for him:

Being honest is a long term investment and builds great personal character. What is the point of cheating for fifty bucks if you can wait an extra couple months and then get fifty to five hundred dollars every month for the next ten years.

It is all about patience, and patience always pays off better. In both adsense and life, being patient is prosperous :)

Being patient and honest together will actually make you even more successful, because even if you made ten grand from cheating, have fun spending it on lawyers and fines, because eventually you will get caught. Someway, somehow, somewhere, it may not even be by Google but karma will bite you in the ass someday.

I'm glad people know how to put a little bit of effort into their posts

    I will elaborate once again:

Traffic is the only thing that matters! It doesn't matter how good your website, idea, or ad placement is if you don't have traffic! You can ALWAYS do your ad-placement-tweaking, blending, etc. after you get your website off the ground. Timing is everything so don't miss your opportunity and you also don't want to put all of that effort into a site if it doesn't receive the traffic you were hoping for.

9 times out of 10, a website won't live up to your expectations(traffic and interest wise).

Use an image rotator script to rotate images next to ads, but make sure you include a line between the image/ad.

A Google rep has stated publically(I was just reading it the other day) that there should be a line between the image and the ad so that you are not creating a misrepresentation of the ad.

somebody asked for image rotator script. For php based webpages i use
    http://alistapart.com/d/randomizer/rotate.txt

Create tables for images and google script and add the code. Its vey easy.

Now coming to the adsense tip!

Dont make your ads look like ads! Blend them well with the site layout.
Use the same bgcolor as your webpages. same text color as your webpages etc...

Bottomline: Make your ads look like they are an integral part of your webpages.

    cheers
    prasad..

Don't tell people about your ad, but know what ads are going to show, and explain WHY what these advertisements are showing is good. For example, if you make a page about yarn, and you know yarn ads will show, start talking about why yarn is good, then when people see the yarn ad, they will want to click (if they are interested in yarn, I personally am not, but might click an ad if the yarn article was compelling enough).

That is a really good one!!!!!!!!!!!!

So basically, you are giving a sales pitch for the ads.

I don't hear that one very often but I REALLY like it.

    Thank you for contributing!
