Hey guys i am using 2.6 version and i want to upgrade it to 2.8 but as i have installed wordpress manually so i am getting no way out to upgrade it easily. I don't understand that much of codes. Can anyone tell how to do this. I have seen people transferring wp blog to some other hosts n all but never knew how to do them. Can anyone of you suggest an easy upgrade and safe process, so that my blog won't get disturbed.
You need to go through below given as its useful to you. http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress DON.
You should use the link of deluxdon, it's actually very easy! You just have to replace all the files using an FTP program and well, that's almost it? If you can't work it out please PM me, I can do it for you if you can't figure it out but please try, that way you'll know how to do it the next time ;-)!
Be remember Try ist backup your your databse If got Any problm so it can be danger and u can loss ur data
Download latest Wordpress file. use GUI based FTP clients like CuteFTP, or filezilla untar your wordpress files and upload the whole contents to your wordpress folder. Alternatively, Take DB back up of your site. remove the existitng install new wordpress using fantastico (installer software) import the DB. In both the case take a working backup. and start doing.
My way of doing it, manually, is after you have downloaded and extracted the latest version: Delete config sample file from the latest one. Upload wp-admin Upload index within plgins folder Upload index with themes folder Upload index within wp-content Upload wp-includes Then all the loose ones, ei: index.php etc I just prefer it this way. Never do any of the above before taking a database backup as a minimum.
Follow the Detailed instructions given by wordpress... http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended 1. Deactivate ALL your plug ins before attempting to upgrade. 2. Check to see if your template and plugins will be compatible with the new version 3. BACKUP BEFORE you attempt to update I find it is easiest to use cPanel. My preferred method is to delete the suggested files with cPanel. Then extract the new version into it's own folder. Then drag the new version into the blog or root directory. You can update a site in about 5 minutes using cPanel... no reason to waste time with FTP if you don't have to.
+1 for linking to the extended version of the wordpress upgrade. -1 for the cPanel method. It will work depending on your server configuration.
Turns out it works great for me... +2 Time is money and when you waste time you waste money. So your point is? Do everything the long slow way because there is maybe a chance it might not work?
Thank you all for sharing this info I need to transfer my WP blogs from one host to other, is there any easy to follow guide or shall i use the same method mentioned to upgrade(above), Thank you
