After having adsense on my site for one year now I can say that despite the odd glitch I've had a steady increase in revenue over the period. I'm not earning big bucks by any means, but this month looks like my first $300. I started a year ago just hitting the $100 mark in my first month, so its fairly slow progress I suppose, but I'd be disappointed if this time next year I wasn't hitting at least $600-$700 a month. With adsense there is so much potential. Attempting to increase visitors, increase CTR and thus increase revenue is a HUGE motivating factor in developing my site. What I've found useful has been - - Reading and implementing the extremely helpful advice on the DP forum - Adding at least 1 new article to my site every week - Experimenting with ad sizes and positions to improve CTR - Above all (I still can't always manage this) having the PATIENCE to wait until all the messing around produces some results Here's to the next year!
Well done mate! I've been with Adsense for a couple years now and am still struggling to hit that $100/month mark. I've been travelling around the world for much of that time though, usually without a laptop and always without it connected to the net, so I guess I've got an excuse. But I'm all set up now so it's time to get cracking. My goal is $300/month by the end of the year which I think is well within reach, especially if I stick to that advice you've given above. Keep it going! Kirsty
I agree with everyone else, congrats. My road with adsense has been a good road to travel. I have several sites that bring in over 100$ a month on Adsense. But I have only been with adsense for a few months now. Im hoping within the next year to be around the 300$ a month range. And yes DP is a GREAT place to learn and meet new people.
brynrees, congrats. and a question for you... How many total sites do you have? and have they all been worked on for a full year? How many days a week and how many hours a day of those days do you spend working on your site(s) ??
Hi Thanks for the congrats. I only have 1 site which has been going since 2002. I only put adsense on a year ago. The time I spend on the site varies. If I am home I try and do something on the site 6 days a week and and spend 3 hours a day at least on research and writing content as well as adsense, stats, admin etc. If I'm free I can spend a whole day doing stuff for the site. It's never finished really. However, if things crop up that need to be fixed fairly quickly - eg a page of my site has 0.1% CTR, I try and focus on that for a while. Hope that answers your question.
I've been experimenting a bit with ad sizes depending on the type of page. For me the index pages on my site (by far my best earners) which include the homepage, work best with one large rectangle and sometimes a link unit underneath somewhere. Content pages are more difficult, but either a wide skyscaper on the left margin with perhaps a banner at the end of the article, or just a large rectangle at the end of the article. In my (limited) experience you need to experiment like hell to squeeze every last drop out of the pages.
I'm still at the $0.50 / day range... I was wondering if the bigger earners could answer a question. Do you advertise your site through adwords (or others), or just rely on organic traffic?
I use adsense, but generally most of my traffic comes from word of mouth or other types of advertising. Get the word out about your site. Post in lots of forums with the link to your site in your sig. If you do use the forum method, make legit valid posts or else people will just know your spamming and wont ever click your links. And content is key, if you want to get above that range, get return visits. Just one idea for getting the word out. think of a few more like that and you should be earning quite a bit more.
Your site is PR6, superb. BTW, it is pretty annoying because every site opens in new window. Is for this any particular reason. Bye.
People bring in traffic so many different ways. Search engine traffic, I am sure, is the most form of traffic, but people get traffic from links, advertising, buying traffic through ppc, natural linkages and much more.
