one thing that i think people overlook is that the giant companies out there generally have a database on all their customers buying habits, and because of that - it helps them to see the trends. but you are right, very great read thanks for sharing =)
I think one of the points he makes near the end (very good read by the way, thank you) is the concept of targeting more impulse buys instead of conscious price point marketing. This has proved to be (in my opinion) very effective for those marketing Apps for iDevices, etc. Making them 99 cents instead of a higher price point increases the viral ability factor and the like...larger audience. Very interesting read.
Interesting to see what the economics of that trade off looks like. IE, from only a $10 product, you now need much more than 10x the customers to get the same net profit (transaction costs). Say you need 12 customers to make the same money.. Some markets work for that... and some won't
