    I was just thinking...

I've received two pm's lately. Both from DP members with 0 posts. One trying to sell db's and the other selling links.

Should there be a minimum of posts before you can PM people?

I sometimes get PM's from people who only signed up to message me about my article submisson service. Although you have a valid point it would be a shame to stop these people from contacting somebody from DP if they want to.

Not at all a bad suggestion.

People just register and PM, just disgusting.
    Something should be done.

It is useless to repond to these types of fake pms from members with 0 posts. If you suspect it as spam, just report it otherwise just ignore.

I keep getting these kind of pms occasionally. I never respond to such enquaries as a result I never get repeated pms from same member.

It's not practical for a couple reasons (one being that sometimes someone needs to PM the admin because there is some issue and they can't post for whatever reason).

I did recently change the default PM behavior though that you can only use the private message system if you've validated your email address. That seems to have cut back on some of the hit and run PM spam at least.

I typically don't get the level of PM's that others get. From the posts I've seen of people complaining about spam, i figure this.

So I was just asking questions, maybe spark other's to speak up if there was a problem.

    thx,

    tom

So true.. Better keep quiet and report it to the concerned people.

Starting a new thread for every spam message received is not necessary.

    I have an option.

Lets make a Thread named Hall of Shame and Put all these rubbish into that bashing the Spammers.

This might help in stopping many of them who at least have a little shame.

Shameless ones might be there and the only option towards them is their accounts to be closed :D

By the way, if I ever commited a mistake, dont put my in hall of shame. LOL
    Since its my idea
    haha:D :D

Really?? Did you read what the admin said 3 years ago?

Also, if we had a minimum post count, then these spammers/bots would make junk posts in the forum until they got their PM permissions, then they would start with the PM spam. That would leave us to ban the spammer, and clean up the posts that they made.

And it would be a much bigger risk for members if they started posting publicly. It's bad enough people are falling for phishing attempts via PM because they're not checking links before clicking. We really don't need more of that happening publicly, exposing countless more members to the issue.
