Script or Theme for a City Portal

I have seen a few posts about City Portals. I have been paying for a script that is currently running on my website shuswapbc.ca. This script has a monthly fee and I really don't think I need to be doing that, what with all the free themes and one time payment options.

I would very much appreciate anyones ideas on a good theme or script for use as a city portal. Such as MY PHP or SMF or Joombala, ect.

    Your ideas are valuable, thanks!

I have purchased the phpcityportal.com script. It seems quite good, but I am working with the developer to iron out a few 'bugs'. I think it is a great simple layout, with a lot of functions/features that users could easily come to find most useful (including advertisers). My domain is www.shuswapbc.ca
As of this writing it is a work in progress. Once the minor things I found are tweeked and functional, we will be looking to market this site within the region. I know that Joombla and a template club would probably work well, I am not overly comfortable with the technical side of that sort of platform. Although, were I a programer, it would likely be a great way to go, so many mods.
    Thanks for the ideas!

So far phpcityportal.com is pretty good. However, I have identified some bugs and can not really promote the site until they are addressed. I have had numerous contacts with the developer and he has said he will fix things, he just hasn't as of yet. A big big problem is the lack of a users manual or any sort of instruction on working with the script.
I hope that very soon the bugs will be worked out, as this does seem to be one of the better out there.

We have been in constant contact with you over this and will continue to be. Our opinion was to not use this on an add-on domain and it should fix the issue, as NO other portal has this issue. We troubleshot this issue for 3 days straight and we have seen all code perfect. Again, we are the developers of this script so we know it better than anyone else and we can only keep telling you our opinion if the code is functioning except on your add-on domain.

That is interesting. I admit this is very strange issue and I trust it is new. When the script was first installed, this was not happening. It was not until I changed one php file (inil) because of an incorrect reference that this issue began to happen. I have been in constant contact with the host (hostgator) and they have said the exact opposite, that the domain, as an addon, is not causing the issue. I have let them know that the file they referenced is now up, uncoded, so we'll see what they have to say soon. I know you folks have worked on this a lot, I do appreciate that, but it is not fixed..... I already have a hosting account and do not want to have to pay for another (when this one is paid for and includes unlimited domains).

The only option I feel I have is to re upload the entire script or have you folks or the host figure out what is going on. I want to re upload the script, but can't because the script I downloaded does not have the fixes that had been done when first installed (after downloading and uploading to my server).

I think you folks have about the best script I have come across and I have reviewed a lot of city portal scripts and services. But these issues are becoming very frustrating. As soon as these issues can be resolved, without costing me more money, I will be content that I have found the best all in one city portal script. Lets make that happen.
