Should I start my own dating site?

I have a site ranked well for a certain sexually suggestive search term (page one google) and right now I am promoting Adult Friend Finder, making some decent extra money.

But I was thinking of starting my own dating site, keeping 100% of the payments on a recurring basis. I have been looking at some services and you can get plans where you can use an existing profile base, so your first new members will have someone to go after...

Any suggestions or recommendations on this?

If it were me, I would weigh whether or not the 100% payments was worth the extra work involved in operating the dating site.

Calculate what you make per hour now and what you would make and compare the numbers. Would your per hour income increase?

    Yeah you should start it.
Its not wise to sent the member to the adultfriendfinder coz you can earn more if you own dating site.
abledating.net is a nice script for this kind of site.

The owner of Plenty of Fish is a millionaire. Staff consists of just him. He spends a couple hours a day monitoring the website. I was reading about the guy in a magazine couple years ago...damn him and his riches. It won't hurt to try at all

    Personally I would say no.
Adult friend finder makes you money as it is, and there is probally very little effort for this.
If you start your own dating site the chances are that its not going to make as much as your going to first have to let people join for free as you can't really have a network without users... then eventually your going to have to start charging for the service, and at this point your still not sure if anyone is actually going to pay...
Just looks like alot of effort for something that might not actually make anymore money for you.

Thanks for the replies guys. The reason I was thinking about it was reading about the plenty of fish guy in a magazine article while waiting to get my hair cut. I did have somewhat of a twist on the adult dating niche and want to try it out.

The service I was looking at does have a 5 million member base, supposedly, that I can use with my own brand. I pay their fee and hosting and keep 100% of new member fees. Plus, since promoting AFF I learned a little about what gets people to join. A good "independent" review site/videos (muhuhahaha). So instead of changing my site that is ranked well, and jeopardizing losing my ranking, I can simply change the recommendation from AFF to the new one that has a focus on _____ (top secret)

Think I will give it a try... BTW, AFF is still a good dating affiliate to be with, but I don't ever see getting rich with them.

I personally never use such schemes, although it is simpler than starting your own. I prefer struggling with the windmills :D

If you start your dating site, then create awareness locally among your friends and tell them to refer others.
By this way your site can start getting attention and will be popular.

    Good luck !

Crisis Makes Online Dating Sites Flourish

MIAMI BEACH, FL, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ - The majority of Americans are hurting in today's recessed economy and the Nation's singles are no different, with many getting pink slipped before happy hour. And, as people cut back on everything from consumer electronics to out-of-home eating/entertainment spending, Avalanche, LLC, owner of leading online dating sites Date.com, Matchmaker.com and Amor.com, reported today that it has experienced growth during these cash strapped times. Additionally, a new poll reveals that site members are becoming frugal with dating, investing more time looking for love online before committing to a date.

"We were not surprised that overall revenues for Date.com, Matchmaker.com and Amor.com grew 17% compared to the first and second quarters of last year," said Meir Strahlberg, CEO of Avalanche. "Singles are being a lot more strategic with their dating methods, spending more time making sure the person they meet online is worth the cost of a date. And, while many members are reining in what they deem non-essential expenditures, we've found that with singles the search for love and a soul mate is as much of a priority as paying the monthly rent check or electric bill."

In addition to the influx of new subscribers, current members of Avalanche's suite of online dating sites are logging in with more frequency and spending hours searching through profiles, sending e-mails and utilizing the private chat capabilities. In fact, there has been a steady increase in online activity since the start of the fiscal year with 3% or more month over month, while cumulative growth has netted a 26% change.

Given today's economic climate, we also decided to poll our members to see how they are coping socially. In a new survey of thousands of single men and women nationwide, we asked: The recession might be hurting your wallet, but how has it affected your dating life?

Following are the complete poll results:

I spend more time online/on the phone before actually 48%
setting up a face-to-face date. If I'm going to spend
the cash, I want to make sure the date is worth it.

I'm a lot more creative with first dates. Coffee and 11%
a stroll through the park is a great first date that
    won't break the bank!

I stopped going to bars and clubs to pick up people, 11%
the cost for entrance fees and drinks alone were
killing me! I've been trying to meet people in other
places, like online, during my commute, at the gym
    or Barnes & Noble.

Third date dinner and a movie is no longer in my 9%
budget, although the nightcap and nookie at my/their
    place is certainly cost effective.

The recession isn't affecting me at all, I'm still 5%
    going all out on dates

    All of the Above 16%
