One thing which will really help is to change the default settings to Show All Threads. By default it only displays the last week or month from memory. This of course is only useful when you have alot of discussion and threads.

Thanks for the links Trump, those are really helpful.

Some of the stuff there would've never been considered by me at all.

BTW, do you guys think I should start doing this right from the beginning or after my forum is fully established?

    Thank you.

Does vbSeo really help? I've been on their forums, debating if I should get it.

vbSEO is a means to an end. It simplifies the SEO process for you, but it's by no means the magic wand that will automagically jump your forum to the top of the SERPS. You have to know how to use it, and even make take some additional SEO steps on top of it in order to really utilize it to its' fullest. Is it worth the money? Probably. Is it something that you can't do on your own for free? Nope.

If you think bashing other script writers will help you make more sales, think again homie. ;)

We know where you are coming from when you said that.

No thanks, I won't visit your forum.

yes, but like someone above me posted.. this isn't a magic script.. you wont be number 1 just because your using vbseo, there are many must do's to really optimize your board,, vbseo will certainly help ;)
the sooner the better ;) I'm currently working on a new vBulletin Setup site thats also in my Sig, you may want to take a look. I'm adding all the useful info and articles about these exact questions that I can find. I just started it, & it isn't really public yet, but it may be able to help you out as is. :)

If you are running vBulletin, SEO can definitely be improved. Of course, there are various schools of thought on how that is best accomplished. It will come as no surprise that I'm going to suggest vBSEO is the best way for you to get started. ;)

Of course, please do not forget that it's still tremendously important to proactively build content/content/content and establish relevant inbound and outbound links. Doing one thing doesn't mean you should neglect other factors!

Quick tip: I think one thing that is blatantly overlooked is thread titling. Always try to give descriptive titles... A title such as "Check this out" is a very poor title compared with something like "New feature A for Widget XYZ - Check it out" or "Feature A for Widget ZYZ". I would even consider having your moderation team change the titles of user submitted threads, especially active threads containing content that would be a good source of search engine traffic.

With vBSEO 3.0 we are very excited about our new blog-style pingback/trackback features because it adds a new way to easier develop relevant inbound/outbound linking. The benefits of which should be pretty obvious! ;)

If anyone is considering vBSEO and wants to hear more from our customers directly, there are many discussion threads at our forum in the Reviews section where you'll be able to get insights from customers who have been running vBSEO and evaluating the results.

You're not going to rank well just on the basis of having a vb or vbseo - for Google especially you need an established and well linked to forum.

Also - vb by itself has some awful duplicate content issues.

frankly, there's a lot of different ways you can tweak a vb for optimisation purposes, but really you need to use some imagination on this. :)
