In a nutshell what should I do to get a better position in google search besides on page seo? My site has a longtail keyword that sits the homepage at position 14 in google search. My on page seo is far better than 90% of the top 10. What else should I be focusing on besides on page seo to get to the top 10 or even the top 3 position in the google search engine? Position 14 isn't bring much traffic, especially considering the search phrase does not have much competition.
On-page seo, and more on-page seo... Additionally, do you have a blog? I've had success throwing a blog post out there pointing to my intended page with appropriate anchor text. The blog can be on site or off site...
Thanks for the advice, no I don't currently have a blog. I did have one some time back but i have never used a blog to promote another site, does this work well? I would have thought it would have just been used to get traffic.
Here's one suggestion to try to bump your home page higher for that long-tail keyword. • Make about three slightly varying versions of that long-tail keyword. • Find nine of your inner pages and make an in-text link on each page pointing to the homepage. Use one of those varying keyword versions as the anchor text on three of those pages' links. Use the second version on three more, and the same for the third version on the final three pages' links. • What you will have done is this: from within your own site, using keywords of your choice, you have added nine keyword-rich links to your home page. That should give you a boost in the SERPs. Don't expect a difference overnight, but watch it for a few weeks, and see if it doesn't creep up in the rankings. • P.S. I just made up the numbers. Use whatever numbers work for you. Three keyword variations, four, five, whatever. Also the amount of inner pages you make links to the home page from is up to you. There's nothing special about the exact numbers I suggested. But the strategy should work.
Wow thanks Jim, that advice is really quite special, at least to me, I have never heard of doing this before. I will certainly try this out, I appreciate your time to show me this method
You don't necessarily have to promote your site on the blog, it can just be used to keep people updated on the latest changes you make to your main site. What it might do is give you those few extra backlinks that you need to go up in rank.

The only thing that works with Google is inbound links from quality external sites. If you're going after a long tail term you won't to spend a lot to get the links you need. If you need any help feel free to PM me.
