smf spam!!

    i am running a SMF forum and i keep on getting fake registrations and stupid posts..

    they are a weird language to.. like hdfudheure etc....

    how do i stop this from happening? i dont want to have to worry about any of this..

    Install the ReCaptcha modification for SMF. That will stop those spam bots.

    Yes you need ReCaptcha, this will stop spambots from creating automated registrations and messing up your forum. You could also add a delay to posts to like 15 seconds if your post count is under xxx. I'd also make it so they have to answer a simple question or fill out a Captcha form before they can make a thread. This will stop most if not all spam.

    how do i add a question when they register on the forum??

    also, i installed the re captcha. its not running when you register..

    i tried installing this mod that lets you add up to 5 questions when you register... but it says this:

    i also tried installing the custom field mod for registrations... but i think you have to go to features and options and do something but i have no clue??

    all help is appreciated.

    that file will need to be edited so that the mod installs or you add the code manually. not to difficult as long as you know what your doing.

    im using version 1.1.7 right now.. is that ok for these mods? cause i saw it said its able to run wiht 1.1.7

    your forum is at risk. you should probably upgrade, then worry about mods.

    you'll have to get the 1.1.7 to 1.1.8 upgrade, install it like a mod.
    the next update will show in your admin panel so you can further upgrade to 1.1.9

    i'll attach what you need.
    we start with 1.1.7 to 1.1.8

    use this like a mod.

    after, you should be able to do the upgrade to 1.1.9 normally.

    I dont really know how aksimet works but did stopped a few spams..
