Yeah, I'm still finishing up school - working on the ole' Bachelor's degree. My sites or more successful now that I'm on a break from school for the summer and able to work on them. Over the school year I work on my coursework and for employment sometimes write articles for people and do marketing for various companies.

I get called Sir/dude/mate all the time. But with a name like buffalo, I'm not really surprised. And my avatar doesn't matter. I have used actual pics of me in my avatar, and then I would get messages saying, "Hey dude, who is the girl in your avatar picture?"

If it's just casual contact I just ignore it, but if it's someone that I am speaking with frequently, I will correct them.

Another female here - and whether you have everything pointing to the fact you're female (avatar, name etc) you'll still get some who assume you're male ... I don't get upset anymore, if they think I'm a guy no matter what, then they must also think I do a good job rather than be amazed I'm doing a good job LOL

Well, i think because more than 80% of DP member are males and therefore some of them "assume" you are male, not only you, maybe they "assume" all the DP member are males

    Well,
Why don't you donate $50 and change your title to something like "I am Female". :D
Jokes Apart, yes, its true that desperate service providers don't even bother to know whom they are sending PMs or Email.
Just ignore that and you'll be fine.

    ahaha lol
maybe I should also use a signature like this :p

when people talking about me here they usually say "he"
as I understand, people here use "he, sir, dude" to refer to everyone and they don't care about the gender

Come on now...Mel from Melissa and Bel from Belle ( in french for beautiful for a female - for male, it is 'beau', so no mistake here )...
What else is not female in " Belle Melissa " ??

Beside, female are smarter and better in mastering the web than male...

    That's why I married one of them...and she's great...;)

I never say sir in my pm's I use their username.

Some may get mad at this but...

    That's just dumb.

Almost all the big sites are made by man.

Mel from Melanie, so very close. I know a few men who master the web very well, but us women have a gift called intuition which helps steer us in the right direction. There have been many things that my intuition has told me to do that wouldn't seem right to other people... and it's paid off! That and the fact that I have smaller fingers so it's easier to type!:D

it would be interesting to look at the 10% that are female and how much IM income they make compared to the 90% male.

Not sure where you're getting the 90/10 split, but it would be rather short-sighted to assume DP represents the full spectrum of online business owners and webmasters anyway. Just look at WAHM forums as one example - they're full of women who are making a living online, yet most seem to prefer those communities based on both work and family ties with other members to the "geek speak" style communities traditionally dubbed "webmasters forums." Another thing I find interesting is that when you see those kinds of comparisons made on sites like DP (and they've occurred here before), is that many of the members here completely disregard all of the HUGE sites out there made by, or managed by, women for women (probably because those sites aren't tailored to a target market similar to that at DP).

Probably smart to watch any women-bashing, seeing as 3 of the gals in this thread alone are moderators. ;)
