You can still be sandboxed and find your site on site:your domain.

The best way is you copy a bit of text from you page (about 10 -12 words) do a search in google with those words in inverted commas and if it doesn't come up in a search and your site is indexed then you are sandboxed!

I do not completely agree with the above comment. Sites can be in a sandbox and rank well for uncompetitive keyphrases. It is only the competitive keyphrases where you can see if your site is in the sandbox.

To be honest if your site is new it is unlikely to rank well for competitive keyphrases and I think this is something you just have to live with.

Add good quality content on a frequent basis and get a small number of on topic links each month. Gradually over the months get more and more links. You will see improvement, but it just takes time.

    what???

    Sandboxes still exist??

I thought they were extinct - never experienced it ever again. Last time was over 4 years ago, but that was because we had 2 conflicting domain names.

I would agree that using the "exact text from your website" is the best way to know.

using exact text etc. will tell you if you are penalized or not.

Being in the sandbox will only keep you out of the highly competitive phrases.

    Heres a way to tell

    Sitelinks with domain search
    High page rank
    Long tail search traffic
Google will put you in the highly competitive phrases ONLY WHEN THEY ARE MISPELLED

if you use google webmaster tool and google analytics, it would be very obvious when your site is in sandbox.

Actually quite you are surely correct..But you to creat a sanbox link to google.
use the link checker code for your website as javascript. I hope you search this at Googlesearch Engine. Just type the Sandbox+Javascript. And Apply it to your site. Just Copy and Paste.

I've never been sandboxed. I think people often think they are sandboxed just because they don't rank well for a certain keyword. Maybe your site is just too new.

I'm wondering about my new site. It was just launched on Aug. 1. The problem is that when it was first listed it came up for a lot of search terms and now I can't find it coming up for those terms, but I can see that the site is still indexed.

Will this improve and how long will it take?

I thought this meant your page was in the supplemental index? I've had this happen to me once, when I first started out, when I changed the urls without a redirect and the new pages spent some time (a couple of months) in the supplemental before I rewrote the content and they climbed back up the serps again.

Search your domain keyword... If your site is www.mypersonalwebsite.com and you look for "my personal website" on google and you find nothing that means your are sanboxed... Once you start link building and content creation in few months you'll notice you are now within page 1 or 2 for your domain keyword and that will mean that you are slowly getting out of the sandbox.
