Ok, first of all, there is way too much content on the main page. I mean you have almost all of your content spread out on a single page, and thats just messy. Perhaps put fewer but bigger blocks of content on the page, that way the visitor won't be lost in trying to find out the right content for him. Your ad placement is also weird, it won't catch the reader's attention. You should consult google heatmap guide for a better ad placement. The in-topic ad placement seems fine, but could be smaller and more blended in. for example: _________ |ad space| content |ad space| content |ad space| content |ad space| content |ad space| content ---------- content content content content etc. Also your header is huge, I could easily be shrunk down and make the site that much better. Now I am running 800x600 screen resolution so it looks big to me, those running bigger resolution will find it ok. But still, it has too much empty space. You can easily fit a horisontal ad on it and it will work fine. Hope this helps you a bit.
